6 months after the Cockermouth floods and with a bad winter, now a drought looming in the NW?

Where did it all go?

I've been drinking quite a lot of it recently, due to the warm weather.

My old Dad gave me the answer I think, we live in the NW and he said that the last reservoir was built in the 50's or so around here and that no one back then took for granted:
Having a bath in their house
Having a garden to water
Having a car to wash
Having a dishwasher / washing machine

Basically we have outstripped the reserves of water in a massive fashion.

Paving over drives is a big problem. Water runs into the drains rather than soaking into the watercourse through lawns an st.

They coud build enough reservoirs to hold enough water to guarantee that there will be no more droubts but I highly doubt you would want to pay the massive hike in your water bill. It's either that or have a hosepipe ban now and again.

plenty of water in the uk. yorkshire and northwards have loads of the stuff. Just noone has thought to put in a fkoff massive pipe so the people enjoying the sun in the south can have a drink.

Essentially the water companys are just in need of massive construction. We loose as much in one day through leaks then ethopia gets in a sodding year!

Indeed, bit like all the money that got 'lost in the recession', essentially it was never there in the first place.

But, more seriously, how many of you pee and flush when you could just wee in the garden?
How many of you clean your teeth and leave the tap running?

It all adds up... to a fking huge volume of water.

fk it, double mine, if we can splash about as much water as we like without all the pipe bans and "dont waste water" whingers, lets do it.

Whilst we're at it, double my electricity bill to build some eco-friendly, non-co2, planet saving power plants too.

But only if the rest of the global warming, eco-mentals fk off and die.

Read the initial post again.
I am shocked with the lakes there they can't use them. Is that not their purpose?

The lakes are in a national park, you can't just put a pipe in and pump it out.

All the pipe bans? The last one in that region was 1995!

That seems a bit daft. I would suggest making a new one, but I guess the same issue would be created.

They have to apply for a licence with a very good reason to pump water out but the water must not drop lower than the outflow of the lake.

An ex of mine removed all her clothes and swam in one which gave me the heebeegeebees knowing how deep it was biggrin

How deep what was?
I mean, what can she fit in there?
