I can't stand wasp, so when I got buzzed by what looked like the daddy of all wasps I was unimpressed (scared sh*tless)! yikes

The size of these bloody things... I fear that they may be nesting somewhere in the garden as I've seen them a couple of times. Now I'm a bit wary of disturbing things in the garden in case I stumble on the nest. Where do these things tend to nest and if I find their secret base what should I do with it?

Any experts amongst us?

Now where's my bug bat?

Don't go near them, they have been known to carry bad aids.

We've got them too and it frightens the life out of me that they might divebomb me and get stuck in my hair.

On the plus side though I only smoke outside and my fear has made me give up smoking. cool

"Our" nest appears to be at the top of our neighbours 8 foot hedge, but I haven't checked too carefully

Nobody has suggested 'nuking it from orbit' yet. Possibly a bit unfair on my unsuspecting neighbours though!

eek why, why, why does it happen, as soon as the sun comes out I end up seeing that frigging photo posted somewhere and it always makes me wince! Ok, so perhaps it was my own fault for being a complete twunt and clicking on the link entitled "hornets". But I'm going to blame the OP for making it anyway :P hehe

PH is a sharing and caring community. Hence I wanted to share the fear of going outdoors for the rest of the summer! hehe

Absolutely wreaks that stuff though, had some super strength stuff out in Florida for the no-see-ums which suck your blood then don't fly off. You wreak and they still just sit on you and suck away.

Saw a fair few of these in Corfu last year.

Initially I went into full on, gritted teeth, British 'how dare you' attack mode but actually they seemed to be more docile and less aggressive than the smaller wasps.

I probably only killed 3 or 4 before I left them alone, and they were fine.
