Following a recent thread about whether a shirt and tie is more the done thing than an open-necked shirt with a suit at a wedding. I decided that I shouldn't be lazy at my Girlfriend's, Brother's wedding and wear a tie. My original plan was to wear a decent (I'd seen a nice Paul Smith), open necked shirt.
The problem I have is that I am trying not to look like I've just left the office for the wedding. So, any advice or suggestions are welcome on how I can achieve the right look.

Just to be clear. I will not this time or ever wear a comedy tie, black tie, black shirt or tie a tie with a knot the size of a cylinder head. I will be wearing black shoes too. Also, my cufflinks will not have 'jewels' in them or look as though they came with the shirt!

I was at a wedding last weekend, wore a crisp, good quality, white shirt, with a classic red tie with some stripes of colour that matched my partners outfit (a happy coincidence rather than planned).

Like you I'm not into bling so it was plain black shoes etc...

Got some nice compliments on how I looked so it wouldn't be too bad a combination to go with.

Crisp white shirt and lighter, solid coloured tie for me. I like pale blue.

I'd go for a solid coloured tie too.

Next have some nice plain cufflinks for just over tenner.
