I'm looking to reach out to the forum for some advice & inspiration, as I'm kind of lost as what to do next??
I have just graduated, as have thousands of others! Before I went to Uni, I thought I knew what direction I wanted to take, throughout my degree I did some internships to help define exactly what that was, but now that I am graduating I'm not so sure.
My degree is in real estate finance, and I thought I had decided on going into industry on a graduate scheme, eventually becoming an investment agent, then deciding from there what to do next, but the grad schemes don't really appeal to me anymore. I am now thinking that going in as a real estate analyst is what I want, but trying to find jobs is proving very difficult, they seem to want investment bank experience, and there are no junior roles.
I have applied to a few positions, but in the process I keep thinking what other opportunities are there out there, that I haven't considered? I know that if I put my mind to it, I can achieve anything, but I am worried that if I spend too long deciding what do, I will have a gap in my life CV; being inbetween jobs or getting too old for entry level positions!
Choosing something I enjoy and going into that will probably be some advice, but at the moment I am £££ driven, I want a career that can enable me to earn big money! I am willing to work my arse off, doing anything to get to where I want to be, but want to make sure I set off in the right direction, and don't waste time and opportunities!
Essentially, I am looking for some ideas, and different routes to high paying jobs!

as far as I see it, we can throw as many ideas into the melting pot as Ronaldo dives but this sort of thing will come, and can only come, from yourself. Grab a beer, sit back and have a ponder, it will come to you

Take a year out to travel and re-evaluate.
I would like to travel, but kind of see it as an excuse for students who don't want to go into work, whereas I do! I'm bored of being student poor, and what to get on to progressing a career. My plan at the moment is to send off speculative applications in different fields, to see what comes of them! Eg. I have read on here about the Aldi graduate scheme, £40,000, car, etc. but that it's really hard work and people drop out, this doesn't phase me, I'm sure I'm more than capable to do everything required and more. I do know I want to work in the City at some point though, my skills lie in finance, analysis & real estate, but I have got experience in marketing. I believe these suit me to a career in the City, but is that all there is out there, and will it guarantee me big money?

are you any good at football??

I didn't mean to sound flippant, I know you're looking for ideas (which not being a finance sort of person I don't think I'm much help with), I just think that a little space and time may help... no one's head is very clear following the stresses of Finals etc so a beer and a sit down may do you good. I know you want to earn money, who doesn't... but it sounds to me that you have good drive and energy (apologies for the terrible cliches) and you'll get there anyway, give yourself a breather... God knows you don't get one when you get on the treadmill!!

When you say take what you can get, I could go out and get a job as a cleaner or vegetable packer tomorrow. If push came to shove, I would, but I'm looking for a target, so I can then focus my career towards something!
I have seen jobs advertised for Business Analysts, which demand between £500-£1200 a day, but I'm not quite sure what they do? And how do you become one? Is anyone on here one, or know someone that is? How did they start off, and what is the career progression?

I see from your profile, you're a lawyer in Brazil, is that right? What area of law do you work in, did you know you always wanted to be a lawyer, how did you end up in Brazil?

I get the space and time, but don't want to be frowned upon when I finally decide on something, as to what I have been doing the last 6 months? If I get some ideas, I would be more than willing to try to get some experience of it, to see if it's what I want, at least that way I am doing something productive which I can talk to potential employers about.

have you not been doing your Finals etc for the last 6 months?... My Finals ended in early June (a few years back now mind you)I see from your profile, you're a lawyer in Brazil, is that right? Yep, commercial and banking lawyer for a pretty big firm. I didn't always want to be a lawyer no, I very much doubt that any lawyer wanted to be one from the age of 6... I wanted to be Ayrton Senna when I was a kid, though I'd have settled for being Nigel Mansell (that is serious btw... I karted as a child and wanted to do it but alas...)
I did Law at University mainly as an interest that COULD lead to a career but if I didn't want to go into it at the end then it would at least give me a good base for other options. I ended up in Brasil through my firm; I was given the opportunity as I already spoke Portuguese through countless trips to family holiday home in the Algarve and haven't looked back since.
Is abroad an option for you? \Do you speak German, French, Spanish???

It's a dull job, really dull. The moments of joy, of brilliance, of making a process elegant, flexible and waste free are more than outweighed by the onerous paperwork, meetings and users.
I wouldn't personally but then I was one for a good number of years.

Do you still find it interesting? How long have you worked as a lawyer for? I would be willing to work anywhere in the world, my language skills are basic, but I learn quickly and am interested, I have GCSE German C and French B, and have taken basic mandarin lessons. I have thought about moving to a different country, immerse myself in to the culture and learn a language properly, I would love to mix that with some work experience, it's just choosing the right work experience, and knowing someone to be able to get it!
most of my job can actually be quite tedious but the interesting bits keep it interesting if that makes sense.Sounds odd but have you considered the possibility of being an English teacher abroad for a while? This would allow you to gain experience dealing directly with people (something employers like) and would allow you to expand your horizons at the same time. If you have taken lessons in Mandarin already then China? Japan... or even here in Brasil. Brasil is actually crying out for those who could teach English to business people with it's ever growing economy and world status. This could give you some interesting business contacts also.
