... mean that the aholes of the world are going to win?

Usual life situations - someone cuts you up aggressively in traffic (in this example, there is no question that they are at fault) - common wisdom is to say "Nobody got hurt, it doesn't matter, let them get on with it"

Or in business - someone buys something for example, breaks it and then demands a refund for their error - again most places (depending on situation) will just bow down and offer refunds / "customer is always right" etc

Or general life, someone barges into you at a supermarket, you don't say anything out of politeness, believing that these people will eventually get their comeuppance from someone ruder than them, or some other reason.

Ultimately, because everyone backs down, they tend to get what they want all the time.

The aggressive driver will always get to the front of the queue

The customer will always get the refund or response they want, even though they are in the wrong, and usually will not exactly promote the shop

The rude person will keep barging through people, and will always get their way.

So, why is it now the norm to let people get away with it? I understand that standing up to every problem in life is not really feasible, but it does seem, more often than not, that the bigger ahole you are, the more you get...

Well, there are those annoying teenagers who make a mess and smoke/drink wherever they please and harass passers-by or pick on disabled families in those sink estates...

I am with you on this.
Was queueing in supermarket yesterday when a woman with just a pint of milk passed me and another person in front (hand basket aisle) the person in front of me pulled a face but didn't say anything so i did."exscuse me do you mind there are people queueing here would you be so kind enough to join the queue like everbody else thank you"
She said in a snotty voice "it is only a pint of milk ffs"
To which i said "yes i know but thank you anyway"

Person in front had a smile and like you said these sort of people get away with far to much.

It's the presumptuous manner that probably grates the most. If she'd stood at the back of the queue or even asked you, you'd have probably let her in. Well, I would and have if someone has one or two items and I've got a whole basket of shopping.

When possible I try to put people in their place when they take the piss (apart from driving as there's not much I can do).

Examples-

Waiting to purchase some food, chav wanders to the front of the line and thinks it is acceptable to cut in, so I picked him up and carried him to the back of the line hehe Has happened before in a cinema too smile

When shopping, I've had a few people barge into me, luckily I am quite a big chap so they normally bounce off laugh But I find that when walking down the path that people think it's acceptable to walk 2 or 3 abreast, forcing oncoming pedestrians to walk in the road, bks to that, I just walk through them laugh I find that it's usually students, so comments of "oh marrr gawwwwd" are quite commonplace :P

As you say though, people get away with it once so think it's acceptable and keep doing it. I am not sure whether it's a lack of common sense or people just thinking they can get away with it confused

I do however to think that I am slowly educating the students of Winchester in pavement etiquette hehe

It drives me insane. The worst offenders are people (usually middle-management wkers in 320Ds') who cut in at the last possible moment when there is a conta-flow for example, every one else has queued and got in to land one on resonable time, but this prick thinks he can push his way to the front...and what annoys me more is that some dippy bint just lets them in!

I once saw this happen a few years back, a few cars in front a guy in a BMW tried to force his way in and the bloke in a Transit was having none of it, eventually they where touching bumpers, with this each of them gets out to have a bust up. Meanwhile a few cars back there's this dumper, seeing all this going on the driver jumps down from the cab (he's the usual dumper driver, vest, tats etc. looks like he can handle himself) walks over to the BMW takes the keys out and flings them deep in the bushes. Needless to say he didn't fancy his chances against Transit and dumper mans and plods off to find his keys.

To this day it makes me smile seeing his face as the guy in the dumper says 'OI! prick, you want these?'

Not true.

And as for the question, yes they usually win.
I'm the asshole who tries to tell them they shouldn't cut the line, apologize, ...

I have a friend and, when it doesn't come to friends, he's the most egocentric person in the world. To other people he's a downright asshole (in traffic, lines, business, restaurants,...) I'm often ashamed of his behavior and tell him to tone it down a lot of the time.

The thing is... he gets what he wants most of the time.

Just like home to him, btw.

Thing is, he's dead honest so, as a friend, you know where you are :/.

So, after the keys were thrown, was the congestion eased?

Or general life, someone barges into you at a supermarket, you don't say anything out of politeness, believing that these people will eventually get their comeuppance from someone ruder than them, or some other reason. MORE FOOL YOU IF YOU SAY NOTHING, REALLY.

Was the 320 driver using a closed lane? Or was he using all available lanes and attempting to zip merge as per HC as the lane ended, thereby reducing the length of the queue?
