I'm so proud, I thought my days of getting thrown out and turned away were over but it appears not. Saturday night after the Festival of Speed we went out in Chichester for a bite to eat and a couple of beers, anyway there were four guys all now in their early forties, some married with kids, all with responsibilities, and all earning fairly good money in what we do, we'd rented a house down there for the weekend so we popped out for some food. Had a reasonable bit of food and a couple of bottles of wine between the four of us, asked the waitress where best to go for a beer after the meal and on her advice off we went (we didn't know it was a Weatherspoons at this stage) we get to the door and are greated by the worlds scrawnyiest bouncer, "evening guys, sorry the guy there in the red t shirt can't come in, I've watched him walk up the street and he's stumbling and unsteady on his feet" We're now of an age where non of us will argue with stupidity like this so we just dissolved in laughter, this just took the wind out of his sails and the next line is "If I believe he's had too much to drink it's illegal for me to allow admitance" that's it we're crying now, sure he does walk funny, he's an ex moto x GP racer FFS they all walk funny, but it made my night, 40 years old and getting turned away from the worst venue in town with a reputation of being a tramps drinking den, fantastic. No one argued, no one disputed his power, we simply laughed and carried on down the street, but perversly I feel very proud wink

Ive never been into a Wetherspoons that isnt full of piss heads who are spending their benefit money on cheap beer.

They used to be good pubs when they first opened but they are ste now.

Shame because they serve decent ale too.

He was doing his (often difficult I'm sure) job. The only thing you have to be proud of is not making a fuss.

They say you've got to hit rock bottom before you can start recovering.

Refused entry from a Wetherspoons. You're now at rock bottom.

On a similar note, I was banned from Salisbury MacDonalds about 20 years ago for the heinous crime of creating too much litter by sitting with 3 mates and munching though multiple cheap burgers without getting up to put our empty wrappers in the bin.

It's weird that.
On a Saturday in the town where i live Weatherspoons only seems to have people from their 40's upwards in there.
Must have a pensioners discount on that paticular evening.

yes I think it is now the nearest pub to the market cross as all the others have either closed completely or become trendy wine bars. Doesn't make it the best in Chi though!

I got banned from my local KFC 12 years ago.

I applied for a job there in the evenings. Had the interview with the manager, I got the job and started in a week.

Next day, me and a couple of friends went there, ordered (full price, no discount, didn't even ackknowledge that I started work there in a few days), and sat down to eat.

5 minutes later, the manager came over, came up to me and asked for a quiet word, I went with him, and he had a go at me for coming in and ordering, when they were short staffed!!

I told him that I did not start there for a few days, and that I am not getting any discount and that I was a full paying customer like anyone else - so whats the problem?

Did not seem to compute, so I quit before I started (if he is like this when I am off duty, imagine what he would be like when I am on yikes ), and quit before I started.

He told me I was banned for life.

Gutted - I don't think... very lucky escape that one.

Have been there since hehe (FAO - food snobs - don't care what you think.)

I got refused entry to a bar in Coventry once. I'd met up with some fellow Scirocco enthusiasts, including a guy who had popped over from the States and a Professor from Coventry Uni and we decided to pop for a pint.

The world's smallest doorman stopped us and said "Sorry, you can't come in here wearing that." pointing to my top.

It was a navy blue zip-up top with the number 67 on the left breast.

"I'm sorry" I said, "I don't understand - what's wrong with this top?"

"We've had trouble in the past from people wearing tops like that..."

WTF?

You need say nothing more. It's like Mos Eisley on a bad night, including the inhabitants.

Somewhere I have an e-mail from the management of Shoeless Joe's explaining to me why I was refused entry to one of their establishments because I was wearing a baseball cap. I thought it ironic as 'Shoeless' Joe Jackson was a baseball player. Their 'explanation' was ste.

I think you're both right, we actually carried on about another 50 yards and went in the next pub, an absolutely stunning church converstion, not fantastic as a pub but good enough, but the actual structure of the building and the converstion was amongst the best I've seen, and pretty nice pub on the whole so yes indeed a lucky escape.

I was with family and friends once for a meal at Wetherspoons, we are all regulars there. It was a busy night, the staff were overloaded and there was a 45 minute wait for food. We didn't want to wait 45 minutes, so a few of us went over to the burger bar around the corner, ordered up, and brought the stuff back to eat. One of the barmen/glass collectors comes up to us and asks us to take the food outside and come back in when we've eaten it, because it wasn't ordered from there. We explained that we didn't want to wait for a food order, left it at that and popped outside to munch on the burgers and chips and came back in. Its fair enough that you eat their food in their pub, so there was no argument from us and we get on well with most of the staff, but he was a professional miserablist hehe .
