My ex bought my % of the family home.
He had stuck in approximately 1/3 deposit when we first moved in, so he got that back, and then what was left after the old mortgage was paid off, we split 50/50.
We'll have none of that sensible behaviour in here, thank you very much He had stuck in approximately 1/3 deposit when we first moved in, so he got that back, and then what was left after the old mortgage was paid off, we split 50/50.

Okay, scrub what I wrote, I took the b
d for everything
My mum bought my dad out. But to make things "easier for the kids" she seemed to accept his valuation and ignore that fact that she owned about 65-70% of the house anyway. As it is she would have been far far better getting a lawyer involved and an estate agent to bring her back down to reality instead of accepting a 50/50 split based on an optimistic valuation at best. Deal was already done before I knew all the details, and there aint nowt you can do now because it was all agreed and signed.
Silly woman.
Silly woman.

Or potentially very clever. It's not unknown for divorces to go into 6 figures on legal fees alone.
. There isnt that much to argue over in the first place! I signed the house over in total so to get a "clean break", she's also not getting any of my pension and I've not displaced my son - the divorce cost me £700 in legal fees and it's all settled and we've no legal ties to each other apart from our son.
The lost equity was about £60k (£30k each) which would only have been achieved if the house was sold which, to be honest, may never happen given her earning potential.
It's saved us both a ton of hassle and I'm now actually happy with Mrs JTW
