Hi all,

One of my cat's has suddenly stopped eating over the last couple of days. I'm quite concerned if I'm honest as to what he might have caught.

What should I do?

Carefully check him all over for any injuries. Last time ours went off her food, she had been in a fight and had an infected wound that was very well hidden in her fur. Other than that, I'd make sure he has access to plenty of fresh water and go to the vet on Monday if he still hasn't eaten anything.

Thanks. I'll give the vets a call on Monday and as I don't think they're open during the weekend.

I forgot to mention, he has lot a lot of weight frown

There are vets that open at the weekend or do emergency cover. Won't be cheap but that doesn't really matter.

What sort of catfood are you using?

Whiskas Supreme is actually rather good - microwave a bowlful for 90 seconds, and serve with oven chips. Yumsk!

Be a shame to let it go to waste.

Dry food recommended by the vet of course.

It sounds like you enjoyed the cat food not the cat hehe

Perhaps take him to the vet? They're kind of like doctors for animals.

That's already been suggested. Keep up at the back!

A lot of Vets are open at weekends so try anyway.

It could just be a hairball or the hot weather, but it could also be something more serious so don't wait another day to get it looked at if you can find a Vet open.

Cats don't like to make to make a fuss when they're ill, so be proactive!

Try getting something really tempting, chicken or tuna.

Good luck

How old is the cat?

Ours is about 1 (rescued so not quite sure) and seems to have spells of going off most things. At the moment he'l pretty much only eat Gourmet Pearle, fresh cooked chicken or some fancy vet-prescribed dry food. everything else ignored and ends up going out for the badgers smile

Older cats can get fussy, sick cats will be fussy or off food for a week or so but will suddenly get back on it. Check his teeth/mouth for any injuries or obvious bad breath (noticeably worse than average cat breath) as if the cat has painful/exposed nerve etc teeth that would be a likely cause.

Probably because it's blindingly obvious.

I'll stay tuned for the follow up thread,

"Someone just ran over my sister, who should I call?"

And, not forgetting that perennial classic,

"A man wearing a balaclava just entered my home and hit me with a baseball bat - thoughts?"

Cricket bat suggested something far too proper and gentlemanly, and a rounders bat would get laughed at for being girly.

Check this clod out!
