Can anyone help please? This is doing my head in! wobble

A house has oil fired central heating. The oil tank is 2' wide by 6' long.

When a tenant moved in, there was 17" of oil in the tank. The deal was they would replace the oil to the same level when they moved out: there is currently 13" of oil in the tank.

However, they would like to pay the difference instead, as the minimum order of oil which can be delivered is 500 litres.

Assuming 42ppl plus VAT @ 5%, how much do they owe?

Thanks!

murdoc seems to be having trouble so il have another pop

they owe you 6912 cubic inches, according to google there are 61 cubic inches in a litre so thats approx 113 litres

113 litres at 44.1p per litre is £49.83

Im pretty sure that's right

I make it about £48

Oh is the 5% included in the 42ppl or not, if not, I didn't include the 5%

0.482386orig

0.368119new

difference 0.114261

114.261 litres

Edited to include working.

Width = 2' = 2 x 12 x 2.54cm = 60.96cm
Length = 6' = 6 x 12 x 2.54cm = 182.88cm
Depth used = 4" = 4 x 2.54cm = 10.16cm
Volume used = 60.96 x 182.88 x 10.16 cm^3 = 113267.386368cm^3
1 litre = 1000cm^3 => Volume used = 113.267386368 l
1 litre = 42p + 5% VAT = 44.1p
Cost = 113.267386368 x 44.1p which is roughly £49.95

Yes!

Thanks for the answer!

One last question: there will be oil used between now and moving day, so how many litres are there per 1" drop in the tank?

Thanks again.
