Stacks of them in Reading right now. Going to make a right mess of the windscreen tonight. Just glad I'm not on the bike today.

They do seem to all turn up on one particular day, cause a frikkin' nuisance and then disappear. So, it's today, is it?

They were out in force a few weeks ago too.

Maybe they have permission to come out twice this year?

Not in Bristol yet, will be due in next few days I'm sure, I actually find it fascinating.

First time I remember seeing the phenomenom was in Brixham, the town centre was swarming, people running around flapping their hands, papers etc. I thought it was quite funny smile

Yup, they're going nuts here round Gatwick way.

At least the red ones haven't figured out how to grow wings yet! Got bitten by a couple the other week and it really hurt

Perhaps there's an etymologist on here who can explain this phenomenon.

Its 'trending' on twitter - must be fairly wide spread...

...however, tomorrow is going to be 'washed down the drain by heavy rain day' - so they better make the most of it!

I haven't seen any, flying ants or entomologists.
How do they all come out on the same day, do they organize it on FB, Twitter.

Strangely, 2 ants nests appeared in the garden earlier, winged ants galore, then they all vanished within the time it took to boil the kettle.
Horrible feckers.

today was the first day in nearly a year i decided to ride to work. Apart from the chump of a lady that left a massive gap for me to cross, then looked the other way and accelerated at me causing me to slam on the brakes and partially fall off. Yes i can report that from Farnborough to Farnham there are about 1 billion flying ants. Well... perhaps a few less now. Some were casualties on my sunglasses.

Used to see this in a shared house at Uni in Bristol. fkers some how got into the kitchen. One day of the year you could not see the worktop or ceiling. Killing the bds did not work great as it just meant more work to clean up afterwards.

Stuck a load of powder round a nest the other day as they were pissing me off.
You wouldn't believe the amount of dead ones there are in a pile, Its seriously got to be well over 200 off the bds!
