You only play your best hand from 5 cards, so if both of your best hands are the straight on the table then its a split pot.

I love playing poker with people who dont know the rules, I once told someone that I had an odd number straight which beat his consecutive one. He believed me

Unless they were playing Omaha.(you can do 4+1 in Texas. Or even 5+0)

Unless they were playing Omaha.Oh wow, strong Hitchin presence! Awesome.
If you see an old green Nissan Almera and a driver cringing to himself because of a stupidly loud exhaust (2 sections just left each other), give me a wave!
You'll also see me blasting (relatively speaking
) down the A507 and B656.
Hopefully I'll be in an import Integra DC2 with PH stickers all over it soon

Just playing texas hold'em with a few mates and want clarification on something.
so stop being clever!
The op's is a common mistake.
We had a pretty big pot going on, as some of us had the higher/lower card of the open-end straight draw that was on the table (and some were bluffing).
The river had the higher end of the straight (Ace), and everybody just "checked", I raised the stakes but couldn't possibly have better than what was on the table (5 cards!).
2 of my mates folded and we split the pot amongst the two of us
