Anyone know much about flying things?
I have just had this insect type effort, land in the lounge, and effectively take up residence in a light shade. I kid you not, this thing is some sort of mecha insect. So far it has defeated the dog, and a quarter of a can of raid, and the thing is still going for it.

It is about two inches long, red, with multi coloured wings, and a massive head, and what looks like a feck off big sting on the end of his arris.

Any ideas?

Scuse speeeling and Grammeeer. I am defending the lounge as I type.

A cockchafer?

That doesn't even sound harmless!

There is a variety in Birmingham that carries rabies in its saliva, and is largely immune to insecticide. Shoo with care.

Instead of trying to kill it why not catch and release, use a cloth for it to grip onto.

Ovipositor. Lays eggs in you, and they hatch, then the larvae eat you from the inside out.

Could be an Ichneumon of some sort. Image Google "Ichneumon" and see if it looks like any of the pics you see.
