Bored with my 55 gallon planted tank and have decided to go for a ciclid tank as Ive not done this before.

General and local advice say to go for Malawi peacocks as prettiest and calmest of the bunch.

I need to buy some ocean rock and a few other odds and sods and then a bunch of fish.

Anyone here keep cichlids and got any pointers ?

Im prepared for a few losses as equlibrium establishes, but Im led to beleive peacocks arent the same as mbuna for example.

well not insane, but they pissed me off with their constant fighting and eventual deaths.

The tank was big enough, it just wasn't a good balance of fish.

Probably added a few at a time as you would in a community tank, should re-arrange the tank and add a minimum of 6 at a time, the original cichlids then have to establish thier territory afresh before worrying about any newcomers, and with 6 at a time the attention is divided rather than all gang up on the newcomer.
