Give them to your boyfriend he will be able to secure a better deal. From what I've seen the boyfriend generally gets a better price.
So give him a big sloppy kiss for his hard work;)

1 oz (troy) 99.99% fine is about £750-800 or so.

If you want better information than that, an idea of what you're actually valuing would be helpful.

You can find places offering up to about 90% of the gold price for scrap if you shop around. Beware of the dodgy cash4gold type companies that will offer you as little as 20% of the value, or not quote until they have the gold, then make you pay "valuation fees" to get it back once you've rejected their rubbish offer.

I'd recommend the place where I cashed mine in: www.hattongardenmetals.com.

Go to a local shop and get a quote from there then try one or two others. Job done.

As said above, Hatton Garden Metals. My wife got from them, more than twice what was offered anywhere else, and money was in the bank within 2 days.

If it's in reasonable condition (or could be easily polished up) you should be able to get more than the scrap value.

Take it in to a jeweller selling pre-owned items and haggle hard.

Probably should have put that in your OP then.

ATS in London (practically in the foyer of the Savoy) are well known and reputable, but sell high and buy quite low. These folk seem the best bet, if it's coins you're looking into (which I guess it is) http://www.coininvestdirect.com

I did the same this morning and have taken it to a local jewellers. About 3 rings, 4/5 chains and a couple of charm bracelets. He did say one of the rings was too nice to scrap. All weighed on my scales about 70g in total. Will let you know how much he offers me if that helps.

Not a very good guess, given the OP hehe

It's atypical to find anything other than coins or bars made of 24ct, it's too soft for day to day jewellery. That was the basis of the guess.

I was offered £540 in total from the jeweller. For the 2 rings he offered me £30 and £35 each and he would sell on. Also, 2 x 22" 9ct solid gold chains plus a 9ct bracelet he offered £225 for as he would also sell these on. A bag of scrap 9ct gold which weighs about 50g he offered £250.

When I went to http://www.plusgold.com/ they were offering £450 just for the 50g scrap bag. The 2 chains and bracelet weigh about 35g and plusgold are offering £315. So potentially £765 for the gold and I sell the 2 rings for at least £40 each = £845 total

Seems like plusgold is where the money is at.

Sure, but he also said "approx value per troy oz of 2nd hand gold (24k)"

My bad for reading only the most recent post I suppose.

Just an update. Plusgold offered £741 for 82g of 9ct, not including the 2 rings which I will sell separately. The local jeweller offered me £540 including the 2 rings.

Just waiting for my cheque now smile

Thanks for the recommendation.
