It seems on PistonHeads that alot of people are divorced or getting divorced.

Really its just a query, my parents got divorced when I was about 8.. And my Mum divorced again from her ex husband, I guess shes hard to live with? hehe

Hateful, hateful, thing.

The single greatest failure and regret that I have.

Yes. A very painful process. Have been remarried happily for last 15 years and its all was fine in the end. Did not feel that way at the time.

I remember.. I'd never ever seen my Dad cry, and that was the first time I ever saw him cry. Was quite upsetting really.

Me & my brother lived with him, and my sister with my Mum so I guess neither 'lost out' too bad and still saw us each weekend.

Do people who have been through it put on a 'brave face' about it, saying its the best thing they've done, or do they actually mean that?

I think it depends on the individual circumstances, don't you?

In my case it was the best thing I've done and I have no regrets whatsoever.

A horrible period of my life, but one that made it better. I'm happier now than I ever was with my ex.

Yeah I suppose.

Just wondered if those who have been divorced, will save face and say they're much better off even if they actually were very hurt by it.

In the middle of one. Should get my decree nisi through in the next couple of days.

Not a nice thing to go through and you suddenly see a new selfish side to your ex spouse (well, I did). It all becomes very materialistic.

It was my 11th Wedding anniversary last Saturday and I was reminded of how a year can change since our 10th when everything was fine.

But, New LadyTee is fantastic and all is great in the world smile

What, the marriage or the subsequent divorce?

My marriage was definitely great in the early days. Had a son from that relationship, and he's an absolutely cracking fella.

Whilst the divorce was utterly horrible, and involved some of what felt like the darkest/most depressing days of my life, I've come out of the other side better than I ever thought possible.

I've moved on, have had another son (totally unplanned), have a surprisingly understanding partner. Neither of us have any desire to get married. My relationship with the ex wife is better than it ever was, she's also moved on.

Life is generally quite good.

Glad to hear both of you moved on, and are better after it! biggrin

I find it quite interesting really, I'm younger than most here so haven't obviously done anything like people here.

Been through a bloody awful separation after a 5 year relationship (ended up a mental wreck last summer because of it) but we were not married. Still sorting through the financial legals and is costing me a fortune.

God yes. I could have bought a pretty decent car for what I've paid out on legals. frown

Hands up if you clicked the third or fourth option and are not actually married.

Ugh. Why not speak to the ex about estimating the legal cost and just dealing with the problem in a sensible fashion to avoid paying the lawyers? That's what we did. More for us both, less (well, none) for them.

Currently fighting the wife in the courts to gain access to my kids.

Costs running into the tens of thousands and a costly divorce case pending.

Oh the joys of life.
