Another relationship thread....

How many guys here have ever met The One, the girl that was perfect for you, everything was right and she felt the same, you were soul mates, both wanted the same things, blah blah, but for some reason or other you just couldn't work things out in a way that you could be happy ever after, and you had to call it a day and move on - and then met someone else and settled down with her but knowing that you could have had better if circumstances had been different? Or even, moved on thinking you would never find another The One, but did?

I really wish you hadn't posted that - unless you really are auditioning to write my biography

Pretty much a chronological account of the last 15 years

Sure, there have been a few 'good-uns' but the simple fact that there have been more than one 'good-one' means there are other good ones to come.

Finding them however is the problem!... Also as I get fatter, they stay fitter frown

why do I get the feeling that this will lead to many PHers sat at their keyboards but staring whistfully (and somewhat mournfully) out of the window as grey clouds roll overhead an a steady stream of rain trickles down the window.

There may also be haunting violin music playing.

In that sit-you-a-tion now. Been with my missus for nearly 9 years, no kids or offspring for either of us, her family want to emigrate to oz, she wants to go as shes quite close to her parents, and i dont really fancy it. Looks like we're selling our house, so we'll be heading in our seperate ways. Thought she was the one, and perhaps still might be, but we'll see what happens in the next 6 months.

All your previous "the one"'s have never actually been "the one"'s or you'd still be with them. You're only thinking of the "what-if"'s because there's something not right in your current relationship.

In my extremely humble, and often worthless, opinion.

Yup. Together for 4 years, she ended up going travelling. She's back next month. That should be fun...

If I've bothered to stay with them for more than a few months then I felt like that at the time - invariably it's always been reduced to stalker like behaviour, lack of trust and psychosis... the only common denominator is me so I guess it must be my fault as I've always been told before fking off biggrin

I kind of, me and the Mrs split up after 4 years together, spent 8 months apart doing our own thing then got back together. 7 years later, lots of water under the bridge and having dealt with way more than our fair share of crap, we are stronger than ever and have our first baby due in less than a week.

You have been with someone for nine years and are happy with them and now have the opportunity to move to Oz with them too, and you're not keen? Are you mental??! I'd be on the next plane without a care in the world, why the hell would you want to stay here?! wink

No, in this case there's a third person involved, her daughter. Her relationship with her daughter is more important to her than her relationship with me, so I lose. I don't fully understand it myself, but there you go, life is cruel.

I don't believe in "the one". I avoid relationships like the plague and tend to see ladies as disposable pleasures rather than meaningful pursuits. My 'life plan' is to stay single until I'm in my 40s and then look to settle down, but right now (30-something) my career takes priority so I'm financially secure before wifes and babies and all that.

Oh, and before you assume I'm some lazy fat ugly mutant who can't pull - no, I've had more than my fair share of horizontal jogging over the years!

I would like to hope that I can meet the ex in 3 years time and we get back together. It was st what she did to me but when it was good it was amazing. So perhaps when she grows up and I can get over what she did something will happen until then I am going to give relationships a rest.

fking depressing topic though, atleast it's friday tomorrow. we all get the chance to go and find the one.

If i started a thread about the ups and downs of our relationship it'd be 20 pages long by the end of the day. I have been to Oz, but i dont really see what the fuss is about. Dont really get on well enough with her family to move to the other side of the world either and its unlikely having been working in a call center for 7 years that i'd qualify as a skilled occupation to stay out their in my own right. We've had our own house here for nearly 4 years, they've been talking about emigrating for like 5 years, i jus never really thought it would happen, it still might not and they have a lot of stuff still to do if they are to go. Had a many a sleepless night over this but after a lot of talking with the oh, shes said she wouldn't stay for me.
