Up in London doing the touristy bit with my son at the beginning of the week, crikey it was hot, and humid with it.

And I noticed quite a few couples where the woman was completely encased from head to toe in a black Burqa, just the eyes visible through a slit. Thing was though, in each case the fella was wearing a light short-sleeved shirt, shorts, and sandals, nice and cool, mmmmm....

Funny that, I wonder whether the menfolk would have been quite so keen on dressing the missus up if they had to wear the same also? I suspect that suddenly the rules might relax a tad.

And why do women allow themselves to be forced to dress this way, especially on hot sweaty days, whilst hubby dresses for the weather?

Funny old game...

Well out where it's really hot they don't seem to mind wrapping themselves up pretty well...

I'd imagine draping yourself in a sack with nothing on underneath allows plenty of ventilation and is probably a lot cooler than it looks...

In before the MASSIVE argument!

According to Clarkson (it must be true), they only wear a red g-string underneath.

Hmmm... interesting thought, maybe it is.

Not sure I'd fancy wearing all that regalia even with little on underneath, just can't see it being comfortable on a hot sweltering day.

With the right material, it's surprisingly cool - irrespective of the colour. Plus, it keeps off the sun.

Or have centuries of Arabs got it wrong with their robes and keffiyehs? biggrin

It does look a bit 'daggy' as they used to say on Neighbours but I suppose it could look cool. You're not selling it very well by calling it a sack. How about refering to it as a "ninja cloaking device"?

If men had to wear one, there would be a lot more reported incidents of flashing.

For every woman in London wearing a Burka, there should be one western woman in Iraq wearing a skimpy top and shorts.

That's fair isn't it?

Ridiculous cave man like religion.

I feel sorry for the women that are forced into wearing them. I can't believe people really believe in it laugh Think we should follow Belgium and also ban it, if you have a problem with it move to a Muslim country.

If chaps had to wear burqas too, they'd have lots of pockets on the insides.

That was the original intent. Back in the tribal days they were worn by women because rival tribes would kidnap them, so when getting raided they could run into the night and hide in the dark.

The material used is also very light despite the dark colour so wind blows right through it, keeping the wearer cool.

How is that fair? The skimpy top-wearing western woman should come to London. That's fairer.

Years ago, as students on a slightly drunken evening, we worked out the best way to rob a bank.

I think this even included the best way of avoiding the police helicopter.

Given motorcycle crash helmets have to be removed before entering a bank, but Burkas don't, our final plan included a small group of heavily armed men, dressed as woman in the full veil, suddenly bursting (a-la 'everybody be cool this is a robbery') out from the queue, to a counter each.

Then a quick getaway via a waiting Transit to the nearest multi-storey car park, ditch the dresses, and away on foot.

I'm not sure if this has been done yet?

Ho-hum, to have the time again for these ridiculous discussions!
