I know they aren't accepted in shops etc anymore but will a bank still change them? I'm with Natwest.

On the Bank of England website they say they will always change them if you take them to London but thats a faff. If i had one or two i might let it slide but ive got 6 of the buggers frown

RBS are still accepting them, so I presume the other banks will.

Banks should change them for you as face value of the note hasn't changed, they've just been taken out of circulation. If they refuse then try the Post Office.

Yes just take them to a bank and they should change them.

Father Ted: (as Tom comes out of the Post Office with money, to the sound of a robbery alarm and a gunshot) Ya haven't been up to your auld tricks again, have ya?
Tom: No, Father. 'Tis my money. I just didn't want to fill out the forms.

Lloyds TSB took a fair few of mine the other day, hadn't realised I had them knocking around. All banks should still be accepting them for a little while at least.

Haha, trust me it is most definitely a one off occurrence that one!! As a student all of my money is usually allocated (mostly to the pub) :P

Stuff the banks that's hassle.

Take them to the supermarket, buy your shopping, then stick them in the unmanned tills.

I've got rid of all mine in Asda's Waitrose wink and the last one I had was spent last week. thumbup

I've heard a few reports that some banks aren't changing them outright, you need to pay them into an account so they have a record.

Presumably this is because either there are good forgeries which might slip through, or there are some large quantities of stolen Elgar notes which they think might resurface in time (Securitas Tonbridge? There is a LOT of that still outstanding).
