I went to a pub near my work for lunch earlier and a few workmates had fish and chips. The menu describes the dearly departed swimming creature as "A whale of a fish". Does anyone else find their blood boiling at this?

Me either.

I don't actually see what's wrong with it? They are just saying the fish is a big as a large mammal. Or were you dissapointed to find out that the fish wasn't actually as big as a whale?

It was big but it was definitely a fish and not a mammal.

Yeah but if they'd said a shark of a fish, you'd have expected a shark. What if they had said a beast of a fish? Or a giant of a fish?

I think they maybe using the size of a Whale(which is not a fish but many really do not care) to portray "large". A bit like saying a "house sized beef burger", what would you expect? A house?!

The smallest whale is about 9ft long. I take it the fish was smaller than this?

Like that whale I hung out the back-door of in Magaluf last year. Ok sorry, technically she was an obese human.

Its far easier than putting 'A distinctly larger than average to an average persons expectancy of a fish' on the menu yum

General gassing is for car related topics.

This should be in the lounge.
