Hi All,

Anyone done one of these and is it worth doing? I know it is not an MBA and you cannot put down on your CV that you have an MBA... Or is this similar to people who plonk on 355 kits on to an MR2?

Cheers

Why not do a DMS which is more established? It is what many MBAers do as part of the MBA, I understand.

As always it depends what you want as an outcome.

I have a brochure for a 'mini-MBA' sitting in front of me now because it landed unsolicited this week. It appears that you get a day’s worth of Strategy, Marketing, Finance and Leadership over the equivalent of 4 days for about £3k. Because it’s so compressed you will find it is either rushed or shallow and you will have forgotten most of what you heard inside a few days of returning to work – there are studies about how much is retained following a burst of classroom education/training and it’s not a lot!

To get the most out of any education/training you need to study and apply your new found knowledge over a period of time. If you want to accelerate your career and build your knowledge then the Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies (DMS) mentioned above is an alternative, provides a qualification and equates to 50% of an MBA which can be commuted to a full MBA later, normally by studying just a couple of additional modules and a dissertation. The DMS can be studied in 12 months part-time and by online/distance learning. By the end of the DMS you will have developed new knowledge/skills, applied them to your work/career development and have a qualification you can put on your CV. And it costs about the same as the mini-MBA!

If you are building a business and want help developing yourself/business then there are other more practical and effective alternatives to a mini-MBA available.

I’m in the professional education business so please feel free email me if you want to know more.
