Just wrote the date on the battery that I replaced in the smoke alarm and thought 'Oh hell, my dad done that' frown

Anyone else slowly turning into their parents habits unwittingly?

Not only his habits, I am begining to look more like him too. At least I still have all my hair.

For the moment

You have no ideafrown I am so turning into my dad that i have got virtually the same tools, toolbox and ladder as him, i find myself driving like him every now and then, my hair is receding like his and i am less tolerant of stupidity than i used to be. If it carries on, then i can look forward to being a serious racist who talks gobblededook and has no sense of humour. Just bloody brilliantfrown

I've threatened my daughter with the "I'll stop the car and put you out" threat recently before realising that my Dad did exactly the same to me.

I do, however, still use the Black and Decker hedge trimmer that he used. I remember him using it when I would have been about 13 - it has out lived him and I do nothing to it other than spray some WD40 on to the "blades" about 4-5 times a year. In true 'omage to him, I've nearly cut my fingers off with it, swung it in to my legs, leaned (dangerously) over the edge of the hedge/stepladder to reach something (when I should have just move the ladder) and cut through the cable on many occasions.

Thankfully I look nothing like my old man, but I'm slowly turning into him as far as my behavior goes.. quiet scary really!

I actually know a chap who never met his father till he was about 23, they acted almost identically... was very strange, makes you wonder how much is nature and how much nurture...

I still use my dad's Black and Decker hedge trimmer too. They must have been pretty well made because he died 23 years ago and it still works fine now. It only gets used maybe 3 times a year though.

If you mean getting bald, overweight, obnoxious and make a grunting noise when tying my laces, then yes, I'm turning into my father.

I think that's a bit of genetic code carried by men (real men, obviously, not Cliff Richard).

Worryingly, I have also noticed other traits;

1)I always think know I am right.

2)No power tool is too complicated to master without reading the instructions.

3)DIY? That's easy. Why pay someone to do something when I can fk it up for free?

4)The staff at B&Q have started calling me by my first name.

5)Stay pressed trousers are 'much more comfy'.

Thankfully I haven't bought myself a matching set of 'Simpsons' socks/bow tie/tie/hanky/cufflinks/tie pin....................yet.

yes Saving pots and jars because 'that will come in handy in the garage one day'

yes Saving thin offcuts of wood because 'I can stir some paint with that one day'

My father also labeled absolutely everything with those sticky dyno print things.
Including (and I never understood this) the switches on the car. Headlights, fog etc ..Why?

Frighteningly I am now collecting as much electronic 'junk' as him.
