We all know that we have an ageing population but I never thought it was going to come to vacuuming bits of Marmite and toast and Druff off my Dad each time we go out.

Anyone else finding Big Age hitting them unexpectedly?

No-one realised how bad my Gran had got until she managed to have a house fire and has now moved in with my Parents.

We used to go and take her out for cream teas in her local town and she seemed fairly with it, but now that we are spending more than a couple of hours with her at a time we are shocked at how bad she actually is. Feck knows how she managed down there on her own for so long. Still, she has a much better social life now and seems more relaxed, so that can't be bad. smile

M.B.

Sounds like you've put her in a Home? Bloody expensive option.

Sorry,

Just re-read your first line. Still that's a big commitment in anyones book.

No other option really. She is not bad enough to be put in a home because she can't look after herself, and it would be a waste of money to put her in a home because she needs a little help with things. Besides she is very independent and would walk out.

So, the best thing for her was to move in with my parents and get her a geo-locating tracker just in case she decides to go walkies.

My Dad has converted two bedrooms and a bathroom into a flat with a kitchenette, livingroom, toilet and shower-room and a bedroom. The major bonus is that she gets to see the family far more than she did when she lived 70 miles away.

The downside is that we can see how fast she is deteriorating rather than the front that we used to see when we visited her.

I think she could be in a home within 2 years. frown

That's genius! If only ours weren't scared of it.

Sorry to hear that MB, it sounds like it's worse for the family than her.

Nana getting an ASBO tag may make a good idea.

I used to get phone calls from the Royal Hotel saying " Your Grandad is here again in his tropical suit and PJays ordering for afternoon tea, its 3am in the morning, come and get him".

They get old and silly.

My nan's got alzheimer's, horrible disease but she's generally happy in her own little world. smile

Thing is, she's lost all perception of how the world works laugh I'll never, ever forget a conversation a few months back where she was asking me where she could get some cannabis, and whether she'd enjoy it. When I told her it was illegal and she'd have to get it off of a drug dealer, her reply was "Oh... oh I don't like that. So I definitely can't get it in a shop?" hehe
