Hey PH's,

Does anyone here know aldershot? I'm prob moving there soon and interested to know what Cargate or Boxalls Lane areas are like. Thanks for anyone who can tell me what they are like - there is only so much you can learn parking up and sitting outside a house for a couple of hours!!

Cheers

Thanks for the link. Pretty damning verdict of aldershot. Unfortunately, fleet and farnham are a bit of our price range at the moment!!

there are worse areas, if you want a true picture of the place, take a drive down the highstreet on a friday or saturday night.

It has improved now that Vox has shut but I do agree its not a place I would go for a night out.

How about Upper Hale/Heath End near where I live? Try to stay off Sandy Hill Estate and away from the tesco's on the corner of upper hale road and this area is really nice and remarkably chav free. How come you need to be in aldershot? Would 2-3 miles down the road in any other direction be better? I'm thinking Ash, Tongham, Puttenham that sort of direction?

I wouldn't listen too much to the doom and gloom merchants, it is true that a few ago Alderst was indeed a hole, there were areas I wouldn't have gone after dark. However the army have all but gone now and have left a massive void, this void has been identified and the area officially classed as deprived (or depraved) which has led to a massive central government investment, the area is well and truely on the up, and was identified in the Times as one of the top ten areas of the country where property prices are expected to rocket over the next few years.

Looked in heath end. Can't quite afford what we are after there. The plan is for a house big enough for a family for 3 years or so then send Mrs goldfish back to work, get a bigger mortgage then move more out of town. Like the houses in Cargate too. Nice old Victorian rather than what I'm in now which has no character. Big unknown is the area as not from around aldershot. Spent a lot if time there this weekend and it honestly seemed ok. Didn't go out on a Friday night admittedly, but I don't anyway, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Denmark Square, off North Lane is one of the roughest parts of Aldershot.
