Going away for a long weekend camping next week and quite fancy one of these. Last year it was sunny so i took my battered and well travelled Panama but i fear the weather will be less clement this year.

Plus i think it might get used a bit when i start shooting a bit more in the autumn (not posh driven days by the way wink )

Is that a Drizabone? Looks similar.

I had the full Drizabone stockman's coat and matching hat a few years back. Brilliant stuff.

I used to go walking in the rain, because I could.

These generally seem to be worn by the Landrover owning frat.Usually accompanied with a weirdy beard, real ale stains on a holed Christmas jumper, and spouting various bull about how reliable Landrovers are and how rubbish all other 4x4s are!

Don't do it.

Ive one, side is kind of netting, to allow your head to breathe.

Cant think of the make, made in new zealand, i contacted the company direct and they sent one over, at the time there was no one in the uk that sold them.

Love it, sad I know,

I'm not entirely convinced that a NZ made hat would have an Australian badge on the side of it.

yes

I have one. It is brilliant in the rain, it makes me look cool and the wife hates it.

Did I mention it makes me look cool?

The wife hates it because I tried to wear it once...in the bedroom...and another time I made myself into a hatstand, if you know what I mean. wink

I've various hats, and would recommend the Tilley for outdoors be it rain come shine.

http://www.tilleyuk.com/home.asp?countryCode=UK

Had mine for 7 or 8 years, still does the job, just throw it in the washing machine every so often.

" We are delighted every time we hear a Tilley Hat collection has been passed on to another generation of Tilley Hat wearers! Tilley Hats are guaranteed for life not to wear out (as Alex says “Yours, mine or its”). If your Tilley ever wears out (grows holes or frays through wear and tear) then we’ll replace it for free. "

Something that's puzzled me for ages:- why would anyone in Great Britain, one the wettest countries in the world, think that rainwear from Australia, one of the driest places on earth, would be better than a home grown brand? Serious question - just seems daft!

I have one and so does the Mrs.

Highly practical to keep off rain and sun.

Cowboys didn't wear the same hat for fashionable reasons you know.

Thanks.

I've been looking for a hat for ages - something wide-brimmed to keep the sun / rain off without looking too 'Crocodile Dundee'.

The Tilley TH5 fits the bill perfectly. smile

Another vote for a Tilley here. I've had mine a couple of years now & it is brilliant regardless of what the elements throw at it.

IIRC there came a leaflet with the hat recording anecdotes of it's indestructibility challenging you to leave it in your will, the one that sticks in the mind is about an elephant who ate it's keepers Tilly, the keeper then found the hat when nature had taken it's course, washed it - thoroughly - and found it none the worse.
