My iPhone broke a while ago so I sent it off for repair (not Apple).

I was out with some mates a while ago and there's a pic from that night in my photos of a pair of boobs. Now I've got my phone back today and there's a new note on my memo pad written on my memo pad saying "nice boobs" and they've added the picture as the caller picture for someone in my phone! By chance I went to recent calls and saw the one name there, clicked it and the pic is attached to them.

The memo pad note is time stamped and the phone was sent and received by special delivery so there no doubt it was in their hands at the time of the memo writing.

There is clearly an incident where they've had a good rummage through my phone. There's nothing really important on it (save business emails) and I'm not personally put out by anything, I just don't like the thought of a stranger going through my phone without reason.

Is this a breach of Data Protection or is just a lesson not to send phones/computers for repair?

Don't want to ring the company yet if there's a more official route I can go down.

And no, I won't be posting the picture tongue out

Were they "nice boobs"?

We'll need to judge for ourselves on this one. You could set up a voting poll as well.

If you post a link to the boobs I might be able to offer a more helpful response.

Never leave anything on your computer/phone that you don't want other people to see, if you're sending it somewhere for repair.

Regardless of DPA, someone WILL look around incase there's any interesting pictures or videos.

Normally I would have cleared it but the device wouldn't turn on due to the repair it needed.

There's no harm done so I'd just leave it and get on with life!

- Of course photos would help!

No a website that was mentioned in a national broadsheet asked to comment on the repair of Apple repairs

This is what I don't feel happy about.

If your phone is damaged/wont turn on and you send it in for repair, some chump will be going through your phone sending the stuff to himself/mates. I'd probably see if their manager wants to know? Infact I definitely would do.

I was a manager at a firm who repaired this sort of stuff (mobiles, lap tops etc) and there was never a day that went past were I would get a call from the factory… “hey you need to come down and see this… one”

The number of customers that had filled them self’s “in the act” was shocking. It almost got to the stage when they did not find anything that was a surprise. I did say that this was a bit off and they really should not be looking about for this sort of stuff. I got lip service I guess as they just did not tell me after that.

Very wrong to have messed about with your phone mind you.

But aye a photo would help smile

there was a chinese artist that brought a broken down computer with his sex pics with other female artists in the hard drive to repair about 4 years ago,

"One close friend indicated that Chen liked to take photographs during intimate moments with his sexual partners, of whom 14 were celebrities, and privately showed these to a select group of close friends"

Then, two years later, guess what?

"sudden leakage of photos in forums, visitors forwarded the image to other major forums, an estimated 1,300 intimate photographs of Chen and numerous female celebrities may have been accessed and secretly copied by one or more of the shop's employees."

Remember to clear up the images inside the storage before bringing them to repair!!

No harm done. Half the living population of the world has boobs so no surprises there. However, it's very unprofessional for them to look through the phone and add that memo, so I would write a letter of complaint. You may get a month's free line rental out of it or something, which will pay for another night out and more boobs! smile
