What about some sort of pampering treats? Aromatherapy massage for example.

I just bought my bird a laptop for her birthday which went down well. Why don't you take her to a michelin star restaurant for the night? Get a hotel as well and some champagne and flowers. Have bath beforehand together while enjoying the champagne and then go down for meal. That always goes down well as well.

Just as well neither of those. £50 wouldn't even get you through the shop door.

A Jane Packer rose hatbox.

Smelly candle (the Diptyque range are £36+) plus chocs to the remainder of the budget.

Body lotion / bath oil versions of a perfume you know she likes.

Voucher for manicure / pedicure at a local beauty salon.

Pink champagne and chocolates.

The question is getting hold of these things at short notice.

I can only speak from personal martimonial experience, but there is generally a limit agreed - tacit or implicit - for such occasions.

Thing is, without that, matters can get out of hand. £50 spent on a 'surprise' (i.e. something that might have to be quietly binned a discrete amount of time after the giving) is no disaster.

Plus, of course, for most married couples, all the dosh goes into and comes out of the same pot.

I'm guessing you're single. I hope I haven't tainted your idea of marriage. biggrin

£50???? How much do you spend on your girlfriend then?

I'm probably the wrong girl to ask as one of my favourite presents from my ex husband was a rear wiper motor for the golf gti i had at the time.......for £50 I would probably like a Halfords voucher for cleaning stuff!

If that's your budget I would buy her a really nice bunch of flowers, a very romantic card and give her a voucher for her favourite clothes shop.
