So we've lived with pretty bad conditions up here on the North York' Moors, N. East and Scotland for 1-2 weeks now with not much more than a mention on the regional news with regards the conditions and everyone just getting on...

Then.....

Lo n behold London n the south gets a taste of what's been happening else where and it's all over the news and you would think the world is about to end.

Sensationalist Britain here we come gripped in the 3rd ice age, run to the hills.....

Dear oh dear.

That's the problem though, people don't just 'get on'. Edinburgh/airport has been chaos for days with people struggling to get to work. A mate works in Derby and same story with loads not turning into work there either. I lived up North for years and whilst they don't moan about snow they moan like fk about everything else LOL.

People up North like to think we're all Southern softies but in reality the UK is full of soft bds wink

It's more unusual in London, that's why they put it on the news. In case you hadn't noticed, it's normally warmer down here wink

It is funny that the 'north-south divide' only seems to exist in the north. A bit like Scots vs the English - never really bothered about in England, consuming passion in Scotland.

Ay lad, no work shy fops ere, battling on. Sent my lad to school in his shorts yesterday ( compulsorary uniform).

I don't deny that the weather hasn't affected roads school n worksites but the general attitude is different in this and other northern regions and it seems the weather is only really noteworthy when it affects the capital n home counties.

Merely an observation

I disagree - I think it exists more in the South. Northeners think my accent is 'posh' but never say anything about it. Southerners think my accent is 'Northern' and judge me for it.

That's because we don't normally get weather like that down here hehe Equally, it'd make the news if it hit 32 degrees in Glasgow in July! The news report things that happen that are unusual... wink

Funny, the news has been nothing but northerners moaning about snow for weeks as far as I've seen. And it's flipping snowmaggedon down here too anyway!

On the national news I've seen it's been a week of how crap the weather is in the North and now it's how crap it is in the South East. I think you're seeing what you want to see. I've seen plenty of reports about the snow in Northumberland, Scotland, Yorkshire, etc.

Hmmm...

I've never really been bothered about English people in Scotland, but have no idea how many times I've been referred to as "Jock" when I've been dahn sahth.

Maybe it's just the inbred English arrogance that winds people up...

ffs.

90,000 people commute to Edinburgh daily.

3million journeys are made on the London Underground daily

236,000 people commute from outside the M25 daily

The breakdown of public transport in the South East has a slightly larger impact than when Edinburgh is closed.

If you then factor in that the UK's main airports are in the South East, the main route to Europe is in the SE maybe it makes sense that it makes headline news.

It isnt a North South devide. It isnt national news when the West is under 3feet of snow of Wales is shut.
