Countryfile weather forecast - really that bad
Discussion
I just had the pleasure of watching the forecast for the coming week on Countryfile, and if they are correct we are getting lots more snow during the week in the south.
Crap. Did anyone else see this or was I hallucinating? All the websites, BBC included are far more optimistic. Accuweather is predicting a temp rise from Christmas day.

Last weekend's Farming Forecast was pretty well spot on. I got my food shopping in on Tuesday, we picked up OH's elderly Mum a week early and we're currently housebound in Dorset as our lane is impassible.
I'd ignore it at your peril - better to be over prepared than under!
(I'm a bit short of tonic water though, so I'd like one day this week where I can get out!)

Feel for you mate having to get the MIL a week early. Lets hope you can get her back home soon. I'd ignore it at your peril - better to be over prepared than under!

According to that forecast snow will be returning to the Midlands during the middle of the week too.
I was planning on next weekend visiting my parents in Wales, nr Tregaron. Loks like I may ahve to put it on hold.

wonderful news... got to drive from southampton to Warwick most days this week.... should be fun
Ed,You'll be lucky! I've heard that the A34 through Oxfordshire is a nightmare. My sister-in-law lives 2 mins from teh A34 and has had about 11 inches of snow so far. M40 is down to two lanes. Warwick itself is slippery. Is working at home an option?
Matt (in Warwick)
I'm done.....only got a couple of short journeys this week...and 4wd,winters so no worried unless we get a huge amount of the white stuff.....so far on this 2nd wave....we had a few flurries last Thursday and nothing since other than frost.....looking at the "projected" it looks like we will get some... Weatherbug shows sun monday/tuesday....drizzle wednesday & chance of a shower thursday/friday/saturday.....now I'm confused....lol

I think it's quite hard for them. For example, in the Thursday and Friday forecasts we, here in Royston, had snow predicted to head towards us from the South but not over us - in fact how close it was blurred as you can't always tell where your home town is on the weather map.Crap. The forecast on Saturday morning changed to suggest the snow would move slightly further North, then move eastwards.
It turned out to be accurate, as we had snow from 2pm until 8pm, but with only a few hours notice.
I would say the bottom line is that they can't predict that far ahead, especially with current conditions. The weather people seem to be good at working out what the air is going to do (whether it's cold, or from the North, etc.) but predicting the effect it has on precipitation-type is harder. For example, it might hit air at 2C one day and fall as snow, 2C the next and hit the ground as rain.
I know there's more to it than temperature, but you have to trust that the weather people know more than us.
