Kinda similar to what Gadaffi is doing in Libya right now! Only it's Charles' supporters on the streets and the Queen releasing the mad videos smile

If she does die/let Charles reign, do we bother with new money and stamps? Or do we say "fk it, he won't be around long enough"?

Only one monarch has ever abdicated, all the rest have died "in harness", so that's what will happen this time around.

Plenty of VR postboxes still around, if you care to look, and coinage only ever gets replaced because the metal content exceeds the monetary value, it becomes easy to counterfeit, we switch to the euro etc, etc

Without a doubt.

Well, the Queen's funeral is rehearsed on a remote airfield every year.

An aeroplane was recently put on permanent standby to bring her straight back to the UK if she falls ill abroad.

The Coronation Chair is undergoing refurbishment.

Basically everyone and everything is ready to swing into action when the time comes.

The Queen is dead, God save the King. All in the same breath.

The Queen will die, Charles will take the throne and serve until his death.

This will at least give his son and heir some time to start and raise a family before he in turn becomes monarch.

Lizz will last till she's almost an undred.
Victoria popped of at near enough that.
The good old Queen Mum was what 93?

No, Liz has got plenty of life in her.
She's got good genes.
She does feckall, its not like she's stressed out is it?
She served on hand and foot, so I expect her to keep going for at least another 10 years. I just don't see Chazza outliving her, he's just got the air of a bit of a sap, like his little brother Edward.
A fitting epitath being he trained all his life to do it, only to pop his cloggs prematurely.
Sad really, should have married Camilla, buggered that up really, and ended up a back street biscuit baker.
LOL
No, Williams in next, he'll be about 40, and bald.
LOL

And a few Edward VIII ones, or there were until recently.

She probably works harder than you, let alone any other 84 year old - 375 official engagements in 2009.

She'll probably carry on working in the laundrette til she pops her clogs, making sure she's back in time for Phil's tea (he's not so well these days) unless Mr Camerdopolos sells the premises. Charles will have to decide whether he wants to carry on running the pub with Katmilla or step up to the plate - unless he just sells the business to Prince Darren & Princess Jodie. Meanwhile, Princess Whatserface will continue to be an embarrassment, whilst the rest of the cast will be on the take whenever they get the chance, and all the extras will randomly carry on life down the market/in the caff/in the Vic.

Or have I got my frankly-unbelievable soap operae mixed up?

I think WorAL may be right. The number of direct heirs to the throne who never made it is supprisingly high.

Also Charles is quite vocal on a lot of subjects close to his heart but he would have to shut up and tow the line if he were King. I wouldn't be supprised if he were to refuse the crown in favour of William so he could carry on as usual.

eta, If this were to happen it would make for a very interesting constutional debate but tbh I think Charles will sit on the throne and William will spend the next 40yrs waiting for him to do the decent thing.

375 official engagements means she's doing, on average, more than 1 a day, every single day of the year.

These engagements aren't popping up the road to cut a ribbon. They can be all over the country. She has to travel there, meet people, sit through speeches and openings, promote the UK, host dinners at B.Palace/Windsor, etc, etc.

It's not all sitting on your arse in a Bentley, waving.

When you're 84, sitting in your chair with the TV on doing your crossword, let me know then if you feel like doing all that instead of being nicely retired and resting up.
