I think you've missed a vital fact in your OP - what course? I tried transferring universities but it was a brick wall, but then that's for medicine. I've no idea what the policies for other courses are.

Find the university/course you are interested in and speak to the admissions tutor.

Assuming compatible course and not a ludicrous step up in standard of uni (eg Salford to Oxford or something similarly unlikely), it should be very very doable. As previously mentioned, speak to the admissions tutor - also get in touch with your intended department, introduce yourself, establish if there are any specifics you need to know/do.

Good luck!

I suspect there will be no consistency in what happens; if it is allowed, it will be for compassionate reasons which are by nature unique to the plaintiff. Your best bet is writing a begging letter to your current faculty head and the head of the faculty you want to move to, then modify your plan according to what their replies contain. Asking PH isn't really going to help. Bear in mind that, within reason, their duty of pastoral care to you is pretty high on the list of priorities(given how much money you pay in fees these days); even if they personally don't give a toss or hate your guts they have a professional duty to give you such help as they can.

Firstly, decide which universities you'd rather be at and whether they do a similar course to what you're currently doing and then give them a call and see what they can do. It's not unheard of but it is highly unlikely I'm afraid from what I've heard. But then it probably depends on the course...

This is about all you can do.

Universities are independent institutions: it's not like taking something back to M&S, where any branch will swap your jumper for a different one. Courses are all different too - BSc Mech Eng at Bristol will cover different topics and in a different order to BSc Mech Eng at Southampton.

They will have limited places on each course per year: you'll need to persuade them that it's worth giving you one of those places, as it's unlikely there'll be someone on the course you want who wants to transfer to your current university. Don't be too disappointed / surprised if you have to re-apply and either start again or not quite join the course where you think you should.

Hope you manage to get what you're after. smile

We had someone transfer to our Uni due to family issues, the Uni was very, very nice about it, allowing him in even though his grades were not good enough. They also made allowances for poor performance during the year at the other Uni.

I think it will however all depend upon the course admissions people at the Uni you wish to go to. So I'd say call them, see what they say - I suspect they will be helpful.

The car joke doesn't really make sense anymore. I originally posted it as you had posted in GG rather than The Lounge.

I look like a knob now.laugh

I think it's one of those things where there's so many variables that you're just going to have to ring the uni that you want to transfer to, and see what they say.

It depends on whether they offer a similar course, whether the content is the same, whether they think you'll be OK on that course, whether it's over- or under-subscribed, whether you're willing to sort out everything yourself, whether your current uni will "let" you transfer........... Now you've got the 'OK' from your current uni, just ring the 'new' one, and see what they say.

Transferring can be done, as long as everyone agrees.

Did it myself, was fairly straightforward. Spoke to the head of faculty in the new place, he was quite happy.

Managed to get into the same course, but this one initially had higher entry grades. Also offered to jump me ahead a year if I wanted

when im back south, and everything is being fixed... it'l be better not to mention i will have better prospects in general (e.g my old job as a carpet fitter back, chance of working for morgan stanley through their programme, the ex (going to win her back) get myself a evo 8, theres alot of things im aiming for!)

Are those the 'really good reasons' for transferring?!
