What am I missing here? (re Ebay sale)

I'm currently in the market for an Amazon Kindle.

Searched the 'bay and found a used one with no cables/leads so thought maybe I might grab it for a good price. Not a chance, auction eneded at £112!

You can buy them brand new from Amazon for £111 with all the cables included. Does no-one do any research these days?

I just sold my Kindle on eBay last week and couldn't believe that with postage the buyer paid £108 - crazy as the OP said you can get them new delivered for £111 - I think people just get carried away with whole auction process.

Yes I know, so is the one in the auction (I asked the seller). If it was a 3G version I could understand it.

I ordered a Kindle Wifi from Amazon at 13:00 yesterday and it turned up at 14:30 today - I agree that's a terrible delay...

Also, large Tesco stores have them for the same price, in stock.

If you think that's weird, have a search on eBay for people selling dollars. I don't get it, the generally sell for about what the bank would give you for them. But take into account eBay and paypal fee's and the sellers lost out. There doesn't seam to be any benefit to the buyer over just going down the high street either!

Bang goes that theory then. It's not unique to e-readers though. I bought a pay as you go phone a year ago from a shop... same phone couldn't be had cheaper anywhere on ebay. I was amazed.

More to the point can you explain to me why you are buying a kindle, I've looked and the digital books are about the same price as an actual book ? so why ?

'cos you can carry a lot more of them in a Kindle than you can in your hands - and you can do more with it than just read books that you've bought. I use one for documents in meetings.

I will second that - whilst I sold mine on ebay my GF still has hers and loves it. She reads a lot on the way to work and it is pretty small and light and can store 1,000's of books. It's got a great screen too.

I fly to LATAM regularly for work; my 3G Kindle is amazing. Delayed in a regional Colombian airport for 4 hours? Finished the previous book? No problem, on wispernet, buy book, downloaded in less than 5 minutes.

ETA: To answer the OP the only thing I can think is people are willing to pay the extra to get the case. Genuine Amazon cases are bloody expensive, mines in a £5 ebay special.

Why should I explain my purchasing decisions to you?!

I bought one because I wanted one. End of story.

I appreciate the point about the case, I did ask the vendor about it but they couldnt post a picture or accurate description of it. I guess they dont need to when people are bidding like mad for stuff. It's a mad world sometimes.

As a slight thread hijack...

I've just bought an item on eBay which the seller immediately withdrew from sale after the auction. He has 100% feedback. When I actually read his feedback, I saw a list of negatives all based around "he won't sell me the item". How come he has 100% feedback, then? Is this some weird eBay thing??

With very high feedback stores you have to have quite a few negatives before the % drops below 100.

My parents store has circa 40,000 feedback and is at 100% doesn't mean they have never had negatives, mainly from morons, who don't understand that royal-mail don't guarantee next day delivery on first class.

But he only has 355 positives. On a quick glance at the first page, there were 6 negs and 4 neutrals. Is it worth mailing eBay for a whinge at them, or will they just ignore it?
