Hyper extended finger - how long to heal?

Howdy folks. Managed to trap my finger in a cage/fence while playing football 3 weeks ago. It swelled up and went super stiff overnight.
Went to hospital to check it out, x rayed and not broken.
Week later it was still sore and stiff. 3 weeks on and it still feels bruised and i can't stretch it as i normally would. Making a fist it feels tight across the base knuckle.
Any ideas on how long this will take to heal properly? Should i be worried it's still sore/stiff?
