Is it? I loaded up the bar (400lbs) a few days ago and squatted deeper than normal by mistake and had to force myself back up (too much weight and I wasn't prepared for it). My bottom got quite sore when I passed a stool later that day and now I feel like I've spent a week in prison. Piles, or strained Sphincter possibly?

Well if it's bleeding it is probably piles.

Or you left something up there?

No bleeding. It didn't happen the moment I squatted but later that evening.

Yes it's very possible..but unlikely that only one extra deep squat will cause it,unless the condition already existed to a lesser degree.

Just 'Google' image 'prolapsed weightlifter' and you'll see what can happen. Don't do it if you're squeamish as it's a picture of a weightlifter's arse-bits having exploded from his lycra.

I kid you not...

Just don't do it!

I feel a little nauseous.

Never before have I felt the need to say "Top thread 'Bro" , in fact it's one of my most hated expressions but in this case I'm going to make an exception...

I had similar sensation a few years back when going for a PB. It stopped aching after a week or so & I've not experienced anything similar since (no farmer giles)

Any situation where you 'push' more than normal could cause these things.

I had one years ago,not sure why but it bloody hurt.Applied germoloids and it cleared up in a short while.

Though i'm sure this is a troll post, it is not uncommon for weight lifters to get piles. I've had them since lifting weights and am sure others that don't put 2+2 together have.

I am not however, "that" powerfully built. Surely you just look at the piles and they evaporate?

I think it is a definite attention-we post by the satirist extraordinaire or comedic agent provocateur.

But goldbums response made me think a little. Especially since I did the bear last night (80 reps) and had squats and deadlifts today. I have suffered with them on and off years ago but jot had them for years now. I do try and eat a lot healthier. And I take flax and stuff like that. Is lifting a direct cause though or is it the ancillary lifestyle that goes with it? Lifters usually consume a lot of protein/meat and less roughage. If someone has internal ones then lifting may exacerbate them or make them noticeable, but would they make them?
There is some debate on what really causes hernias
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hernia#Causes
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemorrhoid#Causes
"A number of factors may lead to the formations of haemorrhoids including irregular bowel habits (constipation or diarrhoea), exercise, nutrition (low-fibre diet), increased intra-abdominal pressure (prolonged straining), pregnancy, genetics, absence of valves within the haemorrhoidal veins, and ageing"
From that one would think that tensing the abdominal wall could do it, but would that be only in passing a motion?
If one starts low and strengthens the area, wouldn't it make it less susceptible? I don't know though, I don't know how these things work.
Have to add I haven't squatted over 160kg for a few years now....though I have used the leg press at 220kg plus

My only reason for blaming the weights is the fact I'm only 21, mind it could have been down to the week long session of curry, beer and the gym also?

I think the alcohol/spicy food will have had an affect and then the straining will have made the internal things noticeable.

You can strengthen your lower abs and decrease the likelihood of a hernia, after all they're partly caused by a weakness in the muscle wall, combined with straining.

Lots of factors contribute to the occurence of piles, but anything that means you 'strain' less, whether that's eating more fiber or squatting less weight,is considered

good. However it seems some are more prone than others..just genetics and luck I guess!

bit of an update: posting this from hospital bed post op. I've actually torn the rectal passage where it joins the sphyncter muscle, which is tearing it more when it contracts frown
