Sort out my diet for me!
Discussion
I don't have a weight problem, I'm 5'10 and about 70kg, but that's mainly do to good genes and a lot of exercise. But my diet is atrocious and if I stop training I'll probably gain weight fairly quickly.
I tend to eat cake or chocolate with everything and then in between meals as well. My usual diet would be cereal for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, proper meal in the evenings. With a sprinkling of chocolate during the day and after meals. I tend to be very busy with work and then training in the evenings, so don't have a lot of time to cook. I tend to cook huge pans full of food then keep a freezer full of meal-sized portions that I heat up in the evening. Things like Lasagne, Chilli, Curry, Casseroles etc. But quite often when I'm particularly busy I'll skip meals, have lunch late at 3pm, then not eat until just before bed. And when I'm busy I tend to eat whatever is to hand and easy rather than investing any time in my meals. One night last week my dinner was at 9pm and was a Jamaican Ginger Cake and a pint of custard. That can't be healthy can it! I often struggle with pasta dishes as high-carb meals give me rally bad sugar cravings, so I end up eating a load of chocolate afterwards. I've got a case of Cadburys Creme Eggs in my desk drawer FFS! (£6.99 Makro!)
It doesn't help that I get all my food delivered, so struggle to find the time/inclination to go out and get fresh fruit and veg on a regular basis.
What I'm really after is foods to replace all the chocolate with and also ways of dealing with my chocolate cravings.
I could probably do with finding time to go to the shops each week for fruit and veg etc too.
Cheers

Well i usedto be like that, but instead of choc it was crisps!
The simplest thing to do is remove the excessive amount of choc and cake from your diet. Dont not eat them as you will just get annoyed that you cont, moderation and all that.
Getting your routine down a bit would help, i..e breakfast, lunch and dinner at roughly similar times, will help your body get used to it, though some prefer 5 small meals a day as a better option as it keeps your metabolism up so you dont store fat reserves as much.
I am having the same issue with pasta just now as i am on medicinal roids so crave sweets after dinner, so i cleared out all my treats, and basically sulk at night but thats drugs not normal, but protein shakes help stop me feeling hungry.
The simplest thing is, cut out refined sugary treats to a degree, aim for more protein \meat and 2 veg at night, Ginger cake and custard, (while very nom nom)is something to keep to once a month haha.
But yeah its all in moderatin, trim it down a bit and make the effort once a week to buy veg and your meat for the week, freezing and refrigerating so it keeps and jusat make a rough note in your head what you will eat when.
Its easy once you have done it for a week or 2
hope that helps.

I think real deep change is first dealt with in the mind. Often I see good people trying to lose weight but focusing on the short term instead of deep change within themselves and doing so fails.
So with the folk I've been training I've started to focus on their thinking as opposed to making them do tons of exercise.
I think the logical place to start is with habit. A lot of folk studying habit suggest you need to do something at least 22 times before it becomes habit and that is continuously.
So what I'd suggest is you try something like this in the first instance;
- Each time you feel like eating junk ask yourself this question? Where do I want to be in a month, two months, 3 months or even a years time? Happy, fit and full of confidence from feeling great about myself or fat, unhealthy and unhappy about my weight.
If you want the later result then eat the junk, if you want the happy result then don't. Practice this for a month and then see where you're at and your weight loss. If you practice enough, suddenly one day you'll find it very easy to not eat the rubbish.
I also advocate eating well 6 days a week and one day of indulgence! Choose a day (Saturday for me) and eat whatever you feel like! (within reason of course) then eat well on the other days. Doing so should help with the initial cravings.
Good luck and if you want to see how I've lost two stone in the past 10 weeks look at my thread.

First thing I'd try would be to swap the pasta for wholewheat versions - that and make sure you're drinking plenty of water, have half a pint every time you want chocolate, wait 10 mins, if you still want it then go for it.

Even students don't do that!

Yeah, that dinner was pretty spectacular, but it's not really a great idea is it!
