My wife has been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst that is pumping out all sorts of nasty fluid. Cutting to the chase this will require 3 sets of chemo and probably surgery at the end of it. The consultant seems optimistic we can beat this thing but obviously from a personal viewpoint it's a hell of shock and, try as you might, sometimes you just find yourself thinking the worst.
It might seem strange to be sharing this with a bunch of people I don't know but somehow it's easier to talk about here right now.

Really sorry to hear that, OP. Very understandable that you are both shocked just and I wish your wife all the best through her treatment.
I had a v large (at least 19x30cm) ovarian cyst removed last October and was off work for 5 weeks. It turned out it was benign, so I can't comment on the chemo aspect of her treatment but I did get the impression that the success rates with these things is high. I only got confirmation that it was benign after the surgery when they did a very quick test of it mid-theatre, but they took out the ovary that it was attached to at the same time.
On the plus side, the woman who was next to me in the ward had gone in to get a cyst removed, it turned out it was malignant and she had it removed and radiotherapy treatment. She had recovered just fine from that and was back in to get a full hysterectomy as a precaution when I was there.

Mrs C had ovarian cysts on both her ovaries and she had both of them removed, the second one about 3 years after the first. Luckily they were only cysts but she lost over a stone in weight after the first one was removed - it was the size of a melon according to the docs. Hope it all goes well for your wife, we'll be keeping our fingers crossed for her.
I've got a cyst, currently it seems to be behaving but they want to hoik it out next time I'm under a general for any other reason (not enough on its own to risk the anaesthetic hence do it next time I have a truly non-optional one)... hope your other half comes through it all smoothly, the big hospitals are good at this stuff, she'll be well looked after.
