What's the weight of one plate?
It's my first day so I was taking it easy. I did 35kg and it was okay 5 sets of 8. I think that's the lingo! I reckon I will be on 50kg in a month. Going forward.... No idea.

Do 15 a side for 12rep then 17.5 for 12 (Guessing this is what you mean by "35kg" -considering it's your 1st day!- then 2 more 15 a side set 'untill failure' untill your spotter have to pull the bar back onto it's support for you. (As many reps as you can).
It's all about perfecting technique at 1st, and building fixator muscles, so you can do free weights more effectively.

I've seen a powerlifter at my old gym bench 4 a side, he also held record for squatting, 10 plates a side!
I personally saw him do 9 in prep for a comp, the whole gym fell silent to watch him, was amazing.
I saw two big powerlifter do 4 a side for 5,on bench, at my gym a few years back, then, his mate, the bigger older guy, put 5plates on! I personally saw him do 9 in prep for a comp, the whole gym fell silent to watch him, was amazing.

Again the whole gym stopped and watched,
seen it done twice, by the same guy; over 18 months ago. Amazing.alan-87 said:
Been training for about 2 1/2 months now. Started at about 40kg. Yesterday managed 70kg ( 3sets of 5 ). So was chuffed with that!
Am aiming to get as close to 100kg in 6 months. Oh am currently weighing in at 83kg and 6ft.
Each extra 10k after 70 is really hard, really hard. You start to improve slower, keep at it, don't slow down your training or give up for a month or two,- like most people, includeding myself, has done- it takes twices as long to work back to where you was at, i.e 2week off take a month to get back to where you where. Bench pressing is my weakness. Before I managed 50 K without the bar for five reps but then it went down again. I decided I was perhaps over training my chest so I dropped the incline dumbell press from my schedule (25 kilo dumbells) and now I've come back to benching I can only do about 2 reps of 50 K and thats on the smith machine rather than the proper barbell that I was using before. Although I think I will build my stength up beyond what I was before. My goal is to throw my bodyweight onto the bar eventually. Quite a long way to go considering I can only put 50 K on at the moment (I weigh 80 K).

On a normal day I do 3 x 8 @ 90-100kg and my max was 125kg for 5 reps, these are slow controlled reps right until the point of failure. I could probably do much more if I cheated and did the super fast rubbish plenty of folk do or the other one isn't going down to the chest but stopping several inches up.
I'm 15 1/2 stone and 5'11(or 10 depending on the day!).

Got to agree with this after 60/70kg adding extra weight often seems to be very difficult and I've watched plenty of other as well as myself struggle with it. I'd doubt you'll be able to get to 100kg in 6 months but there's nothing wrong with a stretch goal!

I go to an old school gym and my strength whilst I've worked on it is fairly average.
Pop over to the thread 'What training have you done today' and look at didelydoo, he's about 5-6kg lighter than me and at least twice as strong.

If you've plateaued then this might be correct, but if you factor in any 'rate of improvement' you were experiencing before a break it's unlikely you'll be back to pre break levels of performance as soon.Depends how clever you are really, there are factors you can play with such as switching to short, heavy sets before a break,
whether you can do just half an hour of lifting during the time off etc..
