Sat in the office all day, I'm conscious about what I eat, as its very easy to snack - more so with subsidised junk food on offer!

My typical lunch is by no means perfect, so if people can list some substitutes that would be great.

(eaten in no particulary order)

Wholemeal bread with cheese
2 packets of crisps (awful I know)
Some sort of ceral bar
Muller corner yoghurt
250ml apple juice
250ml orange juice
one cup of tea
two cups of coffee

I'm slowly weening myself off the coffee, but I really need a replacement for the crisps and sugary yogurt!!

That's not too bad. Maybe try some full fat plain yogurt with some fresh fruit sliced into it. Looks healthier than my work diet

Buy some rice cakes like Snack-A-Jacks. Then eat one rice cake portion and one packet of crisps. Have another cereal bar instead of yoghurt (isn't yoghurt good for you?).

I've actually just noticed there is a food forum section, so my bad.

Full fat plain yogurt doesnt sound very healthy? I was thinking of those yoghurt drinks, 'full of good bacteria' etc.

Rice cakes are a good call, nice enough to nibble on without any of the crap!

Fat in itself is not bad for you. Fat is what fills you up. Sugars are really bad for you. Salt is bad for you.

With the rice cakes, you could go plain (ie unsalted) but that's a bit hardcore hence I recommend Snack-a-jacks or Tesco/Sainsbury flavoured rice cakes which are quite nice - try it and see how you get on. Could get some rice cakes, some cream cheese, a few slices of smoked salmon and slithers of cucumber. Tastes great but people might question your sexuality. wink

Don't really know much about yoghurts to be able to comment.

I'm a big advocate of eating what you want with common sense in mind. Limit bad things, good things in abundance. Most important, be happy with what you eat- no point hating it, you don't need a 100% healthy diet to loose weight/get stronger etc etc. You'll know already what's healthy and what's not. Everything in moderation. smile

Take some carrots to munch on, I have 2 large carrots every day in the office, if I forget, I end up raiding the choccy bar machine.

How about nuts? Assuming you're not allergic? I've only just started eating them as a snack, after 24 years of "I really hate them", I just kept eating them til I liked them. Only took half a dozen mouthfuls.

Just don't bring a 1kg bag into the office, dunk your hand in then when someone asks what you're doing, say you're "nuts deep". It could end in tears.

Only problem with nuts is they're really high in fat. I know it's 'good' fat, but it's fat nevertheless.

My ex wife was a yo-yo dieter, so I'm familiar with pretty much every diet plan around. My lunch at work consists of 2 wholemeal pitta breads filled with tuna mayo - light mayo, and not too much of it - a Muller light yoghurt, an apple and a drink. That's enough to get me through a 12 hour shift without feeling hungry again before I get home, and I've lost 2 stone since the start of the year by ditching normal sandwiches and crisps...

I think the only bad bits are the two packs of crisps if you can replace these or even one of these with something else, a second cereal bar, a banana, apple or something healthier you will be doing fine. Quite easy to have 3 apples in a desk draw.

Check out the calorific value of the Orange and Apple Juices...

Depends what you are trying to achieve, weight loss, bulking, general health etc, but there are a lot of calories in fruit juices (10-12% sugar)

It's quite fun really, you can specify what you do and don't like and a little box of munchies turns up on schedule.
