Skiing holiday being planned and frankly A) I am too fat and B)my legs are weak.

I am not in a gym and hate running, so apart from dieting (due to start next week) is cycling good for gettings into ski mode?

I enjoy it more than most other excercise, but must get my legs strong!

Thanks

I would have thought that a cross trainer would be good, worth joining a gym for a short while? Or hiring a cross trainer?

DIET and then cycling...this worked for me. 18 months ago could barely squat my own weight...can now do it with 80kgs. Plenty of cv using legfs..cycling, rower. No running.

Nice one, Macgee.

Buy an exercise bike for about £50 and stick it on the hardest setting. Pedal while watching TV/ranting on PH. Job done.

^^^^^^^

but dont put it on the hardest setting , you may end up with knee problems , simply put it on a setting around mid way , check out wattage 200 - 250 range should be enough to have you sweating like a rapist after an hr .......and if its weight loss your after as well ..keep going for at least an hr.

Depends how you're built I suppose. With skiing and cycling I found it okay, did almost the whole amount on the first test. But the 100 press-ups, that was hellish!

Cheers,

FT.

This! Bodyweight squats for high reps - maybe with a bit of resistance later from sandbags or elastic cables - should be ideal given that the skiing isn't a one rep heavily resisted maximal activity!

I know others also practise holding isometric squat positions, maybe back against a wall, for increasing time durations as preparation.

Some side to side movement such as with an agility ladder (cheap enough but you could mark out string/tape as a substitute) might also be a good idea given the movement patterns you'll need to accomodate.

Not easy at all! I used to do sets of 300 = nearly 15 minutes of agony.

I'm up to 150 with a sandbag over my neck now and will push in 25 extra sets per week (if possible) until I hit 300+ again. Makes the legs really firm and gives good endurance. Good for cardio/ the heart too...
