Glasses distorting vision?

I've recently (as in last Thursday) started to wear glasses - apparently I have an astigmatism in my right eye, and my vision in that eye is blurred as a result. I hadn't realised how bad it was until the optician covered my left eye and asked me to read the letters!
Anyhow, a few hours later I picked up some glasses, and my vision is now much sharper - all good.
However, it feels as though the world is being distorted - my monitor now looks trapezoidal rather than square, for example. This is evident through my right eye, but not my left.
Is this normal? Everything is in focus after all, and I've not worn glasses before so I've no idea what to expect... I don't know if previously things were "naturally" distorted by my eye and my brain has become used to sorting this out for me (and is now applying the same rules when it doesn't need to), if it's just something that happens when you wear glasses, or if the lens just isn't right.
Any pointers would be gratefully received! A quick Google is inconclusive...

I would say this is completely normal and after a week or so of wearing them you'll should stop noticing. (It might take a bit longer if you're not wearing them all the time)
My prescription has recently changed and I bought some new glasses. For a few days I also noticed similar distortion. However it didn't take long before my eyes and brain adjusted.
Give it a week or so, if you're still noticing it then go back to your opticians and have a chat to them.

If you are not used to it within a couple of days you need to go back to your optician. I used to get this problem when I had glasses from one of the smaller high st opticians and when I took them off it took ages to get used to the world again. Your eyes (or glasses) may not focus at the distance your monitor is at so you could need reading glasses as well.
As said, give it a few days, but if you're still not happy, go back to the optician.
I have an astigmatism too, and luckily I've had the same prescription for near on 30 years. However, one time the optician made my lenses with a -ve instead of +ve something or other figure, which had the effect of doubling my problem instead of correcting it. That was a VERY strange experience...
