Buying standard weight plates

I am a personal trainer and for last year or so I have been borrowing about 100kg of standard weight plates from a friend for home visit weight training sessions. He now wants them back so I need to buy my own. the cheapest out of the big internet stores is powerhouse fitnesss bt I have used them before and have been less than happy with their service. The product is also a "bodypower" one which is pretty crappy IMO, even though it's only a slab of metal I just don't like bodypower. It works out and a little under £2 a kilo.

Does anyone know where I can get cheaper, reasonable quality standard weight plates from? I've never understood why a heavy lump of metal costs so much!

They do look good, and looks like a good place to get stuff for when (eventually) I set up a home gym. However, it's all olympic stuff and I'm after standard plates for a standard bar (the smaller spin lock stuff). Olympic bars don't really fit in the puma! They're also a bit big to throw around in someones lounge!

York plates from argos is the easiest, once you factor in shipping then they are hard to beat on price.

Have a look at tesco direct- they had a bunch of cheap plates a while back.

I've checked out both Argos and TD and both are more expensive than fitness-superstore and don't have a great range. I reckon I'll just have to stick with the bodypower weights at F-S. They can't be too bad I suppose. I've priced up 2 x DB handles (I already have a barbell), 4 x 10kg, 4 x 5kg, 4 x 2.5kg and 4 x 1.25 (total 75kg) at around £115. So really it's not too expensive, I'd just rathjer be paying < £100m, £1 per 1kg then I'd be happy .

Most of my (admittedly) olympic plates are Bodypower and I can't think why you don't like them? Mine have stood up to years of use in and outdoors. Not a bad price imho, though as Diddley says, TESCO do have some chepa plates in most bigger stores I've visited lately.

How do these compare price wise?

Yeah I reckon this is what I'll go for. My issue with bodypower is last time I bought some fixed rubber dumbells from them the quality just seemed pretty poor. To be fair, it os only a metal plate! Can't really go wrong I'd have thought.

I expect fixed rubber dumbells have more potential for issues/manufacturing tolerances and qulaity than plates. As I wrote, mine have lasted many years without any issues.

I used FS recently for some Bodypower Omlympic plates

They are the tri grip style ones and so much better than a normal plate.

Their service was good. I ordered by phone and product came 3 days after that.
