not sure if this is the right place for this but recently I've started having uncontrollabel coughing fits for about 30 mins usually in the evenings followed by wheezing.

never smoked like the odd drink but have cut down over the last 6 months to just friday / saturday drinks.

I have suffered from hay fever this year - oddly as I don't usually, can it be linked?

I'm a bit of a worrier admittedly and I get a bit of a coppery taste in my mouth when I cough but no blood...

38, male, gym 3 x per week, good diet, desk job....

any thoughts from the medics out there?

IANAD, but Hayfever would be the likely suspect, certainly gets me when the pollen starts coming down again.

Go to your GP and get it checked out - could be nothing but worth it for peace of mind smile

Is it after eating a large evening meal? If so, possibly caused by acid reflux.

IANAD either but sounds like asthma to me; get it checked out asap.

I had the same thing a couple of years ago although it wasn't confined to the evenings.
Eventually went to my GP who prescribed an inhaler.
It disappeared within days.

can asthma occur in later life ?

I did a tough spinning class last night and was a bit wheezy afterwards for a while....

I also coughed up a lung during the class as it was sooo tough. I'm not as young as I used be...

Yes you can develop/be diagnosed asthma in later life, but that's not likely to be the reason for your post-exercise couging. When you exercise hard, especially if you're not that used to it, then the air being forced in and out of your chest can really irritate your throat and lungs.

I wonder if there's some night-flowering plant nearby that's setting you off badly?

I had an absolutely horrible two-hour coughing and wheezing session when I got in on Tuesday - enough so that I was seriously considering A&E before it settled, eventually worked out that the house had been ferociously Hoovered during the weekend I was away and all the extra dust must have set me off.

Suggest taking mild over-the-counter antihisthamine as a first attempt? If it makes it all better, problem solved. If not, off to the GP.

I have similar, things the doctor checked were my lungs, heart, full blood count, lifestyle and eventually decided it's caused by acid reflux and possibly a hiatus hernia. You should go to your GP to get it sorted if it continues.
