I think that my temperature-regulating system has broken! Moderately badly so. Since Thursday or Friday I've been feeling relatively OK (certainly well within my range of normal) during the day, and then at bedtime feeling utterly horrible, in particular very very cold and not managing to get warm quickly despite heavy blanket on top of duvet. I don't have any sign of anything else being wrong, certainly nothing even remotely plausible as a cause for this - just coming to the end of a course of antibiotics for something which seems to have cleared up absolutely fine.

Any thoughts, guys? I'll be in touch with my GP in the morning but I can't exactly see her having an easy solution at hand...

Could it be to do with your circulation? When you are at home later on, you aren't moving around and generating muscle heat, and the core heat isn't being moved out fast enough to maintain your temperature.

Alternatively, have you measured room temperature with a thermometer? Last week I was having the opposite problem to you, feeling hot and slightly ill in the evening. It turned out the room temp was heading above 26C which normally makes me feel hot anyway.

(Usual disclaimer - I'm not a medical professional)

Becca, it could be autonomic or more likely unopposed autonomic action ... patients in my speciality show a degree of poikilothermia - especially below the site of their injury ... given your particular issues this might be the latest symptom to 'enjoy'

Yesterday, my thermostat (which can measure room temperature as well as be given a target temperature to get things) said it was 21 degrees C in my bedroom - that would ordinarily be uncomfortably hot for me in bed (shut up, peanut gallery) and I'm generally happiest in relatively cold climes, but my legs and arms were freeeeezing and getting horrible dull aches, not painful exactly (at least in comparison to major joint dislocations etc) but a deeply unpleasant sensation.

I'm not very mobile at all so I somewhat doubt that it's a change in my muscley-moveyness as I essentially don't have any... wondered if the change from sitting up to lying down could do something to my blood pressure but why on earth would that suddenly become a problem for keeping warm, right in the middle of summer?

mph1977 - I've been wondering something similar, especially given various bits behaving a bit as if they're neurogenic (although technically they're not...)

Have you changed pain killers recently, a minor cock-up with my fentanyl patches left me in a similar albeit worse situation.

scratchchin Think painkillers have been the same - I'm on a few different things with different purposes which generally work fairly well for managing my 'normal' pain. Haven't needed a dose increase in a long long time.

I think I might have cracked it, actually. Started with the symtoms of a viral inner ear infection yesterday complete with a 'vascular hum', the works. Suspect that the oncoming virus caused some problems generally while my body's been trying to sort things out.

Am generally feeling better now (other than symtoms of labyrinthitis banghead ) - thanks very much, everybody. Just as well really as the on-call GP who came to see me was completely useless. Oh well... another thing to ask the neurologist about if I ever actually get to see one.

that's entirely reasonable and fits in with the picture of all so many of the fallen down drunk who have drunk no more than usual ... the only difference being the beginnings or end of a viral infection ...
