Football Knee Injury
Discussion
Did something nasty to my inner knee last Tuesday, Been to Dr's and hospital specialist but nothing showing as yet. Got MRI scan booked in for next Wednesday. Basically, Im getting a 'click' and a sharp pain from inside my knee and a mechanical knock inside too. Not limping all the time, just getting ache and a bit of pain If I'm standing on it for a while (an hour or two)
Pretty worried to be honest, may have a damaged cartilage, will my football/running days now be behind me or have any of you recovered from such an injury?

Probably Anterior Cruciate Ligament. Comes from changing direction suddenly ie a common injury amongst football players. The knee twists. I've done it skating (pulling a 540 degree jump/spin and landing awkwardly) - thankfully, it was enough to be painful but not enough that it didn't heal on its own. If it is really bad, it requires surgery. (This is what I understand that the likely knee injury is!)

could be a lot of things, anterior cruciate, meniscus damage, cartilage etc etc. just going to have to wait for the MRI i'm afraid pal. sorry to hear about your injury
^^ This mate, I'm afraid. Wait for the MRI, knees are a complex bit of the body.
I f
ked up my ligaments playing fives a couple of years ago - it'll never be the same again (even with surgery that I've not had). It's probably cartilage - if you need an op it's quite straight forward and you will walk out the hospital without crutchs. You'll then be back playing footy within 6 weeks.
Cruciate ligament is a lit more serious. About 4 weeks on crutches, lots of physic and back playing footy after about 9 months.
I've done both . You can recover and be as good as new so don't worry too much!
Good luck!

Sounds exactly the same as what I did to my knee skiing this year.
Had an MRI which showed it to be a partial tear of the ACL.
Waiting for Physio at the moment and then they will make the decision whether or not to operate depending on what progress it makes.
But at the moment I'm fine walking about doin every day stuff, just feels a bit unstable to do anything to extreme, and football would be a definate no no.
If I ski next year I will definately be investing in an expensive knee brace.

I'm a sports knee surgeon and there is a very big mix of truths and mis-truths on this page so far.
OP: get a referral to see your local Soft-Tissue Knee Surgeon. He/I will sort you out.
MRI and hospital contact is the way to go though mate.
No further advice given on your individual case... my forum rule, got to be face to face.

Certainly mirrors my situation. Surgeon seems completely indifferent that there has been no improvement.

Sounds similar to what I got when I was in my teens.
I'd chipped something off the kneecap which kept 'growing' whilst floating around in the knee joint.
It was finally detected and removed when it was circa 1cm in diameter.
I still have it in a jar of formaldehyde somewhere.
not osteochondritis dissecans was it?I'd chipped something off the kneecap which kept 'growing' whilst floating around in the knee joint.

So, Update....MRI scan today....come back in a week to get your results and another consultation with a knee specialist. Lsts just hope its not the same specialist that told me to 'take it easy' and that I had to twist his arm to get the MRI scan. I collapsed two days after I was told that and now Im completely crippled! Can't walk, can't drive.
