I get 1 hour a day for lunch and generall end up sitting at my desk or wandering around the shops spenidng money, neither are that useful.

I have a gym right next to My work that I could walk to in 5 minutes and be ready to work out in another 5 so roughly 40 minutes to work out. Does anybody on here do this and if so what kind of workouts do You find You can fit in? I do a variation of 5x5 at home but find I get home so tired most of the time I only use the gym once a week. It also takes Me around a hour as I am not in a rush and switching weights round due to lack of equipment. I also need to start doing some more cardio as I currently only do boxing on average once a week.

My thinking is that if I do it in My lunch it will be easier and then it's done and I can relax at home. Eating at my desk before, after or both is possible.

40 mins is definately adequate, you shouldn't really be spending much longer than 45 minutes in the gym anyway. 5x5 is a good place to start, have a look at Bill Starrs stuff or Rippetoe. Good luck!

Cant recall the last time i was in a gym for longer than 45 mins.

Off in a bit to do chest/shoulders. Bench, Dips, Flys then Presses, Lateral Raises and Hi Rows. 40mins top.

Cheers for the replys guys, I know when I used to go to the Gym with a mate we would bang easily do the 5x5 workout inside of a Hour including change times etc so I'm hoping this is the answer to my lazyness anbd free up my one evening a week wahoo!

Went down and saw the gym and they have 6 or 7 benchs and squat racks with plenty of cardio and pull up bars and dumbbells so perfect for me if I keep going. Doesn't get busy around lunch either and only £15 a month.

All good so far.

Stopwatch with a countdown on it helps me...difference between timed rests between sets and not timing can add an extra 10 mins before you know it (esp in a gym with TV's/women all over the shop!)

For years I've read about 30-45 minutes being the optimum time for training. This may well be the case for the actual workout, but a few minutes to get changed, 10 minutes warm-up, training, 10-15 stretching and warm down, then a shower... I never get away in less than 75 minutes and usually an hour and a half.

I used to at an old job. I was mainly using the treadmill for 20mins and a 20min or so light weights session.

ETA that I'm not saying this was the most productive but I was young and it helped me shift some weight and gave me something to do during a lunch break. If I was to do it now I'd have a more structured routine and could get in a nice weights routine in that time.

Chest and Triceps Day 1

Back and Biceps Day 2

Legs and Shoulders Day 3

On day 1 for instance i'll do 3 warm up sets on the chest and then 2 sets of heavy weights, now because i've already warmed up my triceps by doing my chest i dont have to fart about doing 5 sets on my triceps so i do 2 maybe 3 sets tops depending on how they feel so in total for that workout i'm only doing 7 sets with only 4 'work' sets.

You can easy do a weights workout in 30-40 minutes tops. I dont go throgh the motions like a lot in the gym i basically warm up what i have to warm up, go all out on my 'work' sets and i'm out of there to leave all the pretty boys to look at themselves in the mirror.

I go at weekend i'll spend a bit more time but the extra time is merely spent sat on my fat arse in the jacuzzi and steam room.
