Ok I've decided I need to lose some flab, I'm not massively overweight but am definitely carrying a couple of extra stone than I should be.

Apologies for any typos I'm typing this on a smartphone...

So a critique of my diet, which is as follows...

Breakfast - porridge with skim milk
snack - almonds and a piece of fruit
Lunch - chicken and vegetables
Snack - yoghurt and a piece of fruit
Dinner - normal meat based lunch

I'm trying to restrict carbs but will not totally eliminate them, especially at weekends where ill eat things like chicken fajitas etc.

My workout will consist of a full body resistance workout 3 times a week and alternating with 30 - 45 minutes cardio on none weights days.

Bearing in mind I'm trying to lose weight do I need to bother with a protein shake after training... and should I have something at bed time?

Thanks in advance smile

1) Make dinner a lighter meal.
2) No need for protein shake after training.
3) No need to add anything at bedtime.
4) Plenty of green vegetables.
5) Be consistent!

OK Cheers, sounds like I'm on the right lines, just the consistency I need to work on!

You probably don't need a protein shake if you don't want to really gain muscle. They are purely optional, if you're looking to gain muscle most suggest 1.5-2g of protein per pound of body weight.

As for weight loss about 80% happens with the diet. If you're happy to take your time and do it your diet looks fine.

And I also echo the post above.

Looks good so far. Two minor points; 1. try water instead of skimmed milk in your porridge - I pretty much guarantee you won't notice the difference, 2. portion size - the meals look fine, so long as they are lower in calories than you're used to.

Are you actually working out hard enough? Make sure you push yourself.

Ta for the advice. I'll try the porride with water but it doesn't sound good since it tasted quite different even going from semi to skimmed! I'd probably rather have less of something I prefer to save calories than more of something I hate! smile

Quaker Oat So Simple sachets are your friend:
- Pour contents into bowl
- Add boiling water until covered
- Leave for 3-5 mins, stirring occasionally
- Nom nom nom!

On offer in Waitrose at present...
