I'm hopefully off to Cape Verde a week on Tues. I've had to have some hepatitis jabs and a few other bits and bobs. Rabies was discussed but isn't something which they put on the crucial list for me (and it's £150 for 3 injections). I've just been told to be careful. You still need medical attention anyway I think if you get bitten or clawed, even if you are inoculated.

They usually only give it to people who will be travelling to areas with high risk of Rabies and who will not be able to seek medical attention quickly (I.e. if you're back packing in the middle of no-where).
I've had to have them done for my 2nd job as I handle bats. My doc said I didn't actually need to have the jabs as it doesn't protect me against anything, it just starts the treatment earlier which means you have a little more time to seek medical help.
The jabs themselves are just like any other jab...but in total it's around a 4 week course as you have to have them done weekly until you finish the course.
