I have one day, chuck away lenses that I only use for sports. I have a game tonight and just realised I only have a single lens left.....hunting about I found one with an expiry date of 2009!

It's still in it's sealed little blister pack full of saline - any harm in using it for 2hrs tonight??

Found an interesting report done by a South African optician a few years ago - they took a load of lenses - some with one year to go on the expiry, some one year out of date and some 5 years out of date.

They tested them for bacteria and fungus and found case of bacteria only on only 2 lenses of all the ones they tested - one lens from 5 years ago and one lens still in date!

As such, their summary was "sealed is sealed" - so I wore it and it was fine!
