I need some snacks for during the day, I'm not bothered by crisps or chocolate, but what I'd really like to have would be nuts and fruit type things, like dried apricots, or dates or pecans or cashes or pine kernals, anything like that.

But all of those are knocking on 300 calories per 100grams.

Is there something like that which is much lower in calories?

Anything that is effectively a seed is A Bad Idea - they're Nature's most compact energy store.

Any "snack" that's low calorie is tasteless and not very filling. What about fruit?

Why do you want low calorie girly stuff for, are you on a diet?

Yes, I'm on a bloody diet.

Plan is grapefruit and two slices toast with marmite. One sandwich, one apple, one satsuma, one pot carrots sticks, dinner. No puddings, snacks, chocolate bars, takeaways or chese. This is day 9 and its working, have lost about 4lbs.

But I'd like a nicer snack in the afternoons.

I'm guessing you've done your research (did I miss your thread?) but that diet sucks ass!

It's quite extreme and judging by your retort about being on a diet you've been struggling with your weight for a while. Also that weight you've lost is just fluids I think and you'll have a while were your weight will stay the same, or increase if you're drastically reducing calories as your body will going into starvation mode, so keep with it.

I'm a firm believer in lots of exercise as diets are only a short term fix as you'll just put it all back on again in six months/2 years time. yes

What you need is a life change.

Diets are for mugs!

ETA. No offence!

Nothing wrong with a good diet and its far easier to shift 300 cal by not eating it than burning it off. If you are overweight than the vast ajority of your fat loss comes from eating reduction (cals) not exercise.

Why not look at some of the "girly" snacks....I always have a special K type bar for hunger in the car. Not ideal but better than a Yorkie! And you're right to watch the nuts/seeds....very easy to think it's healthy and do 400 cals in a sitting! I'll often treat myself to a few (literally a few) cashews, but never more.

None taken.

I am reasonably active, despite an office job, I own an old wooden boat and I do a lot of work on that, not a complete slob, BP is a little low but cholesterol good/bad is spot on, but a little high overall.

Diet is working, this is day 10, been my longest successful run without falling off the diet wagon for years, usually fail after 3 days, stopped at the local scrap metal merchant this morning to hop on the weigh bridge, have lost 5.5 lbs.

My plan is to stick with this until I loose another stone and a bit, then relax a bit on weekends but stick with it during the week.

I find Weetabix Oaty Bars to be a good mid afternoon snack. They are a good consistency and I even get my choccy fix with the milk chocolate smasher ones smile

FWIW, my ex-GF is doing a sort-of-Atkins thing: no carbs but plenty of meat. Seems to be losing plenty on that diet.
