I have recently started doing pistol sqauts, mainly to develop some real power and balance.

Then I saw this guy...utterly mad.

Yep, wasn't it just. Would be easy enough with a dumbell, but the a barbell that would be very difficult I think.

Going down that low must put a tremendous strain on the knees. I definitely wouldn't try that myself.

Yeh. I can now do them without too much issue, I don't think I'd do them weighted etc though...

Yep!

It's one of those things that looks easy but it bloody isn't!

Have you tried it?

Impressive! I've done this a fair bit in the past on one of the military units I worked on although with only a small kettlebell. If memory serves me the turkish getup is really quite difficult so doing it with that weight is mighty impressive!

I just tried the one legged squat and get all the way down and back no trouble.

I wouldn't have a hope in hell of doing the other thing though and wouldn't even try!

Can you do both?

You can go down and didn't even fall over the first time?

The hard bit for me was the balance, as going down and being on a flat foot isn't that natrual!

No, I cannot do the jerk, I would not try, to be honest I could probably have a blast with less weight but even then I doubt I would be able to do it.

Nope, didn't fall over, do you want me to video it? biggrin I've got pretty big feet maybe that helps with the balance.

A video would be awesome! smile

I have the strength but not the balance to do it! I've always been hopelessly bad at balancing!

Yeah, I think that's probably not a good idea bearing in mind this is PH hehe

Probably an obvious one but have you tried holding your arms all the way out (and also slightly forwards) for the balance?

I had a go with arms in various positions but as I said balance isn't something that suits me well hehe

Impressive stuff, can't believe he was doing those squats weighted.

I just tried, can get 2 on my right leg going all the way down. Can't do it going right down on the left leg though.

I did manage to fall on my arse on the first attempt though.

Unbelievable! A good find.

I'm way more impressed by things like this than a 600lb bench or 900lb deadlift for some reason. Brilliant body control - maybe a perfect example of "functional strength"?

My knees are popping, grinding and crunching just watching those squats. The tgu is very impressive.

No need for the popcorn, reckon you're right. I'm more gobsmacked by fitness like this than I am by outright strength. Its more like a gymnastic ability/agility.

I'll video one later if I can make the phone stand up and film me.
