I have made a simple excel graph.
I look forward every day to jumping on the scales, same routine every day, same tme.
This way, I should have good repeatability.

I am aiming to lose 100g every day.
That initself does not sound much, but thats the same as 1kg for every 10 days.
To maintain this, may be rather difficult, so I expect a few "Upsets".

Any way, the object is to try to keep my actual weight below the target weight line.

I've done that in the past, does help.

I'd say don't do the weighing everyday, leave it a couple of days, you'll see bigger drops and be more chuffed!

I believe you need a deficit of 3000 cals to lose 1.lb in weight.
Just one of those things that sticks in my brain.

This may just be the thing that gets me to start to lose weight for the first time in about 15 years.

Going to go and make my spreadsheet now.

Excel target based dieting FTW.

Can I post my graph with a pretend lower start weight so I don't embarrass myself with evidence of my years of uncontrolled excess?

This sounds like a good idea. I could do with losing about 8kg, but sitting behind a desk all day and being tempted by the office confections makes any weight loss difficult. Even weekly bike rides are feeling like a chore.

I think seeing it mapped and graphed like that would help incentivise it for me.

.
Ha, no need,
You are what you are.

The main thing is having the realisation that you are overweight, the next thing to do, is do some thing about it.

It's not easy, if it was easy, then every one who was overweight would be doing it.

The heaviest I was was 107kg in Houston, (City of Fat)
I moved to China, and dropped down to 87kg.
Now,,,,,,, if I can do it, then I am sure you can do it.

Why don't you call your start weight something like "current" or "start" and then put your intervals as "-1, -2, -3..."
then there is no need to feel embarassed. wink

In all honesty, the cost. (Despite the rumours, we're not all on director salaries, ya know wink )

I'm not massively overweight, and know if I just get on the bike twice a week and watch what I eat a bit more carefully I'll be down to my target in a couple of months. It's all about willpower (or lack thereof) when the cakes and biscuits come round at work.

Graphs a great idea - if only to remind you. Mine starts 1st Jan this year at 21 stone dead and is now at 16st 5lb. Where its usefull is when I have a pig out week and see 16st 6lb - instead of getting disilusioned and eating more I look back over the year and see lots of variations (negative) that worked out long term ok. I had a knee op, some injuries, fell off the wagon a few times......but the downward trend is comforting.

I've also long given up on a goal (beyond abbs for next summer) - my day to day goal is just to see progression, of any amount. On days I dont, it just fuels me to get in the gym/run/eat less/eat better.

Also worth doing is body fat - because my drop in weight has been only fat....my lean weight is (exactlly) the same as it was in Jan - despite lots of heavy weights/high protein. I'm convinced increasing muscle size while dropping weight is pointless. I aim to be "underweight" in spring and then put on muscle keeping the fat low.

That said, with a lower bodyfat my muscles look far bigger despite the same weight...I've done weekly photos and my shoulders look huge but the only change is less fat.

Oddly I'm going to look bigger at 15stone than I did at 21!

It's a tricky one what with the crap weather and it's going to get worse. Some people just can't stand to train indoors and/or alone. I have no idea what the solution is for such people apart from "Tough, suck it up, fatty". (Fortunately for me, I prefer training alone/at home/indoors.)

That's made me realise I've got an exercise bike standing in the spare room gathering dust which could be serving a useful purpose.

Really? My gym is only £20 and is very decent with plenty of equipment.
Good luck!

Good man. Stick it in front of the TV and you'll have cycled for 2 hours without realising it (if you're that bothered about TV). Being an avid reader, I bought a recumbent exercise bicycle so I can pedal while reading. I suppose I could use a tablet PC or something on a desk next to the bicycle. I could be on ebay pedalling while peddling. biggrin

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and share my big idea with the world, if only because it deserves to see the light of day. I've almost certainly missed something obvious that renders it pointless, if so, let me know.

As a fat man who loved sport, but found playing against racing snake whippet shaped fellas demoralising (and effing knackering), I have long harboured the idea that you could run weight classes, as in boxing, in other sports.

An 18+ stone five a side football league would be a shambles to watch I'm sure, but if it got us chunkies running about a bit, it's got to be a good thing. At least we could compete on a level, if a little heavy playing field.

That's the practical applicable side of it for normal people to lose weight, but I do love the idea of Olympic track and field events being run along the same lines. The 100 metres for super heavyweights, long jump for 16-18 stone etc. Reverse it for the traditionally heavier sports, 60kg hammer throwing, can't be seen to be weightist.

Any big boned people want to come and have a kick around?

Nowt wrong with that idea at all. Maybe only do 15 minutes per half if it's football...

You could have Japanese wrestling for fat people, too... oh, wait...

Just had a though - why not post on Gumtree for some fat people who want to lose weight and into football. Then hit a local "Goals" centre? http://www.goalsfootball.co.uk/

The only annoying thing is you would probably get average types pointing and laughing which isn't great. Hm, perhaps rent a hall in a council gym for some 5-a-side instead.
